Trailblazer is a new product in Chevrolet’s portfolio that eyes recouping brand’s rapport among Indian buyers. Stepping into the shoes of Captiva which failed to gain momentum, Trailblazer looks promising. The outer styling goes well with the bulky size. There is abundance of space in the cabin and feature list includes some noteworthy equipment. For power generation Chevrolet has relied on a massive diesel powertrain while keeping the petrol engine out of the line-up. The all-wheel drive option has been left out too which may have made the SUV mightier, hence the drive is sent to rear wheels via an auto box.
The Outer look is huge and robust, but thankfully it does not look gawky. Styling apart the high ground clearance adds to the masculine stance. Design is simple but the overall treatment is done tastefully. The face is large and looks aggressive featuring split radiator grille surrounded by a thin chrome line. Head lamps are small and look out of proportion on the giant SUV. Lower bumper gets small chrome finished fog lamp housings and sporty side skirts. Get to the side and you will notice the large sturdy tyres tucked under the wheel arches. What may catch your attention is the inept space between wheel arches and tyres. Moreover, the blow around arches isn’t that appealing. Window frame is small and narrow and a sleek chrome garnish is evident on it. Other characters like rising window line and rear quarter glass merging with the rear windscreen come out really well. Rear seems to be afflated by arch rival Fortuner and lacks individuality. The tail-gate mounted large spare wheel with full size alloy rim accentuates the macho semblance.
Step inside to be greeted by the dual-tone cabin that looks very up-market, although, the quality of material could have been better considering the segment Trailblazer falls in. The dashboard is dominated by black colour featuring beige on the lower part. Piano black finished flowing centre console gets a touch-screen flanked by vertically mounted AC vents. A large round shaped temperature control dial is placed just beneath the touch-screen. Floor console comes with a coin holder. Bottle holders on the door pads are present on front and rear doors. Seats gets premium leather beige covers. There is ample leg-room for passengers sitting in front and rear. Rear seats are positioned a tad low, hence the thigh support isn’t very comfortable at the back. The blue illuminated instrument cluster gets a unique design, but numbers are not clearly visible.
Trailblazer Engine Specifications & Transmission
The only variant in the SUV’s line-up is driven by a high displacing 2.8 litre, four cylinder, common rail injection Duramax diesel engine. Power on offer is 197.3bhp at 3600 RPM and 500 Nm at 2000 RPM. All wheel drive system is missing and drive is directed to rear wheels through a six-speed automatic transmission with active select.
