In a bid to lure customers during the festive season, Ford has launched a special edition variant of its popular sub-four meter SUV, EcoSport. Dubbed Signature edition, it is essentially the EcoSport Black Titanium trim available with additional accessories and exterior graphics. Cosmetic add-ons such as new LED DRLs, silver applique on front & rear bumper and body graphics on side profile with EcoSport badge make it look sportier. Inside, it gets illuminated scuff plates and black vinyl seat covers with red stitching. The Signature edition is available with 1.5 litre petrol and 1.5 litre TDCi diesel units.
Ford EcoSport has carved a niche for itself in the sub-four meter SUV space. The compact SUV was launched in India a couple of years ago and ever since it has been a popular choice among customers. Available in petrol and diesel fuel options, it gets a choice between manual and automatic transmission. The lean and modish looking SUV misses out on space inside as compared to rivals. Offered with a choice of three engines, the petrol variants are available with a 1.5 litre TiVCT and 1.0 litre EcoBoost unit. Diesel variants house 1.5 litre TDCi engine and transmission duties are carried out by a conventional five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Ford has added a new ‘Black Edition’ version to EcoSport’s range, priced between Rs 8.58 Lakh to Rs 9.93 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the special edition version is available on three variants namely-Trend+, Titanium and Titanium+. Styled contemporarily on the inside, EcoSport gets dark themed interiors and a host of comfort goodies.
Ford EcoSport Exteriors
Front profile dominates the exterior styling, the upper bumper features a sleek grille accentuated by a hint of chrome. Homesafe head lamps come with integrated daytime running lights available exquisitely on the top-spec variant. A large lower grille with chrome surrounds is placed just below the upper one. Black body cladding on the lower bumper and flanks lend masculine touch. Side panels are marked by flared wheel arches and prominent character lines. Rear is as impressive as front, it gets a mounted spare wheel, stylish wrap-around tail lights, integrated spoiler and black cladding on lower bumper.
Ford EcoSport Interiors
Interiors feature two tone colour theme with a splash of chrome on the dashboard. Seats are covered with fabric upholstery across the line-up save for the range topping variant. Leather is used around steering wheel, gear shift knob (in manual variants) and hand brake. Centre console appears a tad clumsy featuring buttons, dash-mounted AC vents, dials and touchscreen atop. Rear seat can be folded back completely to create more space for storage if required. Besides, the rear seat also gets 60/40 split back fold down feature and can be reclined as well. Driver’s seat on the other hand comes with height adjuster and lumbar support.
Ford EcoSport Engine Specifications & Transmission
Engine choice includes two petrol and one diesel units. Petrol variants are available with 1.5 litre Ti-VCT and Ford’s renowned 1.0 litre Ecoboost versions. The 1.5 litre Ti-VCT petrol engine is tuned to develop 112PS at 6300rpm and 14Nm at 4400rpm. Ford’s three cylinder 999cc EcoBoost engine yields 125PS at 6000 RPM along with 170Nm between 1400 to 4500 RPM. Diesel powered EcoSport derives power from 100PS 1.5 litre TDCi diesel engine churning out 205Nm. A five-speed manual transmission is mated to the entire range save for the 1.5 litre Ti-VCT variant which comes paired to a six-speed auto box.
Ford EcoSport Features
Exteriors feature wiper with washer at rear side. Inside the cabin an armrest is provided for driver’s seat, a retractable and removable rear package tray is also available. There is space for storage under passenger’s seat. Sunglass holder, illuminated passenger vanity mirror, day/night inner rear view mirror and height adjustable head rests at rear are some of the other features packed inside.
Ford EcoSport Performance & Mileage
Ground clearance of 200 mm makes way for a delightful performance. Fuel economy delivered by the 1.5 litre petrol manual variants is 15.85 kmpl and its automatic version can return almost similar numbers at 15.60 kmpl. ARAI rated mileage for the 1.0 litre, EcoBoost engine is 18.88 kmpl. Diesel variants on the other hand are claimed to run up to 22.7 kmpl.
Ford EcoSport Accessories & Infotainment
For personalisation Ford has a couple of options on offer such as a chrome kit, signature head lights, rear spoiler, alloy wheels, air deflector, roof rack tray, front fog lamp kit, roof styling rails and cross bars, spare wheel cover, appliqués for front/rear bumpers, bonnet protector, head lamp cover, spare wheel cover, reverse parking sensors, mud flaps, side running board, chrome finisher and car cover. SYNC AppLink with voice command and 3.5 inch MFD screen are available only on the top end trims. Apart from the above mentioned features FM/AM radio with Aux-in, USB port, CD/MP3 player is also equipped in the cabin.
Ford EcoSport Braking & Handling
Stopping power is provided by ventilated disc brakes in front and drum brakes at rear. Handling and ride quality is well balanced, although out of the two petrol engines, the 1.0 litre EcoBoost engine is more punchy. The 100 PS 1.5 litre diesel engine is well insulated generating less noise than its previous version.
Ford EcoSport Safety & Security
Safety equipment aboard are anti-lock-braking system with electronic brakeforce distribution. Other prominent safety fitments include EBA, ESC, TCS and HLA. Airbags are employed for driver and co-passenger along with sidebags and curtainbags. Emergency assist, configurable speed alarm in fuel computer, ISOFIX, rear parking sensors, remote control central locking with flip key, smart keyless entry, immobilizer system, electric swing gate release and locking nut for spare wheel conclude the rest of the safety features incorporated in the SUV.

Comfort gizmos available on the SUV include theatre dimming lights, automatic air conditioner, steering mounted audio controls, cooled glove box, power windows, power adjusting wing mirrors with incorporated turn indicators, driver window one-Touch up and down, push button start, rain sensing wipers etc.

Entry level variants get steel wheels on 195/65 R15 tyres while top end variants feature alloy wheels on 205/60 R16 tyres.

Ford EcoSport’s direct competitor in the compact SUV segment is Mahindra’s TUV300. Other SUVs in the same space posing threat to EcoSport are Hyundai’s stylish Creta, Renault’s Duster and Maruti’s S-Cross.
