The S-Cross comes with two engine options - 1.3-litre multijet & 1.6-litre multijet - both of which have been sourced from Fiat.
Maruti Suzuki's first ever premium crossover - the S-Cross - launched in the price of range Rs. 8.34 lakh - Rs. 13.74 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The S-Cross comes with two engine options - 1.3-litre multijet & 1.6-litre multijet - both of which have been sourced from Fiat. Showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo as a concept, the production-ready version of the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross made its debut at the 2015 IIFA awards, followed by its launch in August, 2015. Though the Indian model is based on the European S-Cross, it has gone through several mechanical and design changes that make it compatible for all sorts of terrains in India. Interestingly, the S-Cross doesn't carry Maruti Suzuki's badge; instead it just gets the Suzuki logo along with the model and trim name. Despite being a crossover, the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross competes with compact SUVs such as Nissan Terrano, Renault Duster and Hyundai Creta.
Design & Features
The vehicle looks largely similar to the SX4 S-Cross concept unveiled at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo. Though it has gone through several design changes that now make it more compatible for Indian roads. One such change has come in the form of increased ground clearance that makes it sit higher than its European counterpart. Other key exterior elements are plastic cladding all around the body, roof rails, 16 inch alloy wheels, etc which make it look quite rugged. The cabin of the car takes its design inspiration from other Maruti Suzuki cars including the Swift and Ciaz. The S-Cross features leather seats, all black interiors with silver inserts, engine start-stop button, steering mounted audio controls, SmartPlay infotainment system, reverse parking camera, 2 Din audio system and automatic climate control.
Safety features on offer are anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD) system, hill assist, etc.
Engine & Transmission Options
The Maruti Suzuki S-Cross has been launched with two diesel engines - 1.3-litre and 1.6-litre - both of which have been sourced from Fiat. While the 1.3-litre diesel unit is the same that does duty on the Ciaz, Swift, Swift Dzire and Ertiga, the 1.6-litre multijet diesel unit has been imported especially for the Ciaz.
1.3-litre diesel - 89bhp, 200Nm
