The new E-Class LWB is the longest car in its segment and also the roomiest one. The new model is over 5 metres in length and comes with a wheelbase of 3079 mm and despite its increased length, the car looks proportionate. The E-Class also gets its own signature twin LED daytime running lights that is a major differentiating factor in comparison to the bigger S, or smaller C-Class. The new alloy wheels, electrical ORVMs with integrated turn lights and the LED taillamps further add to the car's elegance and style, Under the hood, the E350d diesel variant gets the familiar 3 litre turbo-diesel engine which churns out 258 bhp and 620 Nm of torque. On the other hand, the petrol version - E200, comes with the 2 litre turbocharged engine which punches out 238 bhp and develops 300 Nm of torque. Both cars will come equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission.

Engine set up comprises of three powertrains displacing 1991cc, 2143cc and 2987cc. The 1991cc, in-line, four cylinder petrol engine engenders maximum power of 135 kW at 5500rpm along with 300 Nm between 1200rpm to 4000rpm. While the lower displacing diesel engine propagates 150 kW at 4200rpm along with 500Nm between 1600rpm to 1800rpm. And the 2987cc, V6 engine is capable of developing top power of 195 kW at 3800rpm along with peak torque of 620Nm between 1600rpm to 2400rpm. A 7G TRONIC PLUS automatic transmission with ECO start/stop is mated to all three engines.

Performance on offer is imposing; the top speed for the petrol engine is 233 kmph. Diesel engines achieve pinnacle in terms of speed at around 242 kmph for the 2.2 litre engine and the 3.0 litre motor attains top speed of 250 kmph. Acceleration time from rest to 100 kmph for all three variants is impressive with 3.0 litre diesel engine being the fastest at 6.6 seconds followed by lower displacement diesel motor at 7.5 second while the petrol engine scores least in the race at 7.9 seconds. Mileage isn’t something to look up to but then when you are behind the wheels of a Merc it doesn’t really matter.
