We've seen companies like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volvo, Ford come out with new and improved safety technology but now Toyota has introduced an assortment of safety systems in Japan.

Starting next year, the company will begin to offer active safety technologies that are dubbed as Toyota Safety Sense (TSS). They will be broken down into two packages that promise to be affordable and aim to prevent or mitigate collisions.

The TSS C package will be offered on compact cars and will include a Pre-collision System which uses a camera and laser radar. It is not the first time that we've seen this technology but Toyota claims that it is making it affordable.

The technology has been tried and tested and follows the same routine. When a collision is imminent, the system will provide an audio and visual warning to alert the driver. If the driver fails to respond, the system will automatically apply the brakes and reduce the car's speed by approximately 30 km/h.

Then there is the Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beam system which is included in the TSS C package. We've seen these technologies on the new Mercedes-Benz cars and they too will be an added bonus.

The other - TSS P package - will be offered on mid-sized and high-end cars and include all the elements from the TSS C package as well as Radar Cruise Control and an upgraded Pre-collision System with pedestrian detection technology.

Toyota also announced that it is developing a new vehicle-to-vehicle communications system as well as LED Array Adaptive High Beam headlights which will offer wider illumination without dazzling drivers of oncoming or preceding vehicles.

Here's a short video of how it actually works
