In a bid to ward-off competition in the premium SUV space, Mitsubishi is working on the new-gen Pajero Sport model expected to launch sometime in 2017. Sporting vital design changes on the outside, the new gen Pajero will get up-scaled interior and an all-new 2.4 litre engine instead of the current 2.5 litre unit. Transmission choices will continue to include a manual unit and an automatic gearbox.
With prices starting from Rs 28.28 lakh (ex-showroom), it is one of the most affordable SUVs in its space. Mitsubishi gave minor upgrades to it in 2014 mostly restricted to cosmetic changes on the exterior. It also received a new automatic transmission like most of the rivals. The next gen model will however get a new engine as well and a new face with additional styling elements.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Exterior
A bold chrome grille in front, projector type halogen head lamps, round fog lamps with chrome housing, large air-intakes and black lower cladding lends the requisite rugged look. Side profile gets flared wheel arched, side stepper and supporting lines. At the back it sports wrap-around tail lamps and a large bumper.

The seven seat layout ensures ample space for occupants, although the third row is a bit cramped. It gets wooden trim around console and premium upholstery on the well cushioned seats. More space can be created by folding the third row seats for storing luggage.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Engine Specifications & Transmission
A 2.5 litre, DI diesel engine with intercooler turbocharger is plonked in the SUV pumping out maximum power of 176bhp and 350Nm. A five-speed manual transmission is available on the 4WD variant and the auto box gets 2WD system.

It sports 12-spoke alloy wheels, power-operated & retractable ORVMs with side turn indicators, front fog lamps and chrome finished outside door handles. Cabin equips a multi information display, front auto air-conditioner & rear manual controls, leather seats and multi-way adjustable driver’s seat etc.

Inside, there is a multi-function MP3/CD player and music can also be streamed through USB port and AUX-in. Other than the aforementioned features it also comes with six-speakers, navigation system, Bluetooth connectivity and steering mounted audio controls.

The rugged premium SUV is well equipped with safety features like ABS with EBD & hydraulic brake booster, SRS airbags for driver & passenger, 3-point ELR seat belts, anti-intrusion brake pedal, electronic immobiliser and cash detention door lock system shutdown.
Mitsubishi Pajero Sport Comfort & Convenience
The SUV gets a bunch of comfort features including paddle shifters for the automatic variant, dual auto AC with air-conditioner switch & ceiling vents for 2nd & 3rd rows, keyless entry, rear camera with display and sliding/reclining seats.

It takes on the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Hyundai Santa Fe in the premium SUV segment.
