Highlights

Skoda Auto India has released the monthly sales numbers for May 2022, during which the company sold 4,604 units. Compared to the 5,152 vehicles sold a month ago in April 2022, the Czech carmaker saw a month-on-month decline of almost 11 per cent. At the same time, in May 2021, Skoda sold 716 cars in India, against which the company saw over six-fold year-on-year growth of 543 per cent. However, we have to consider the fact that last year in May, Skoda did not have either the Kushaq or the Slavia, which are its current best-sellers. So, it was a one-off anomaly, and wouldn't be ideal to compare the two months.

Both the Slavia and the Kushaq have been integral in boosting Skoda's volumes in India

Commenting on the company's sales performance, Zac Hollis, Brand Director, Skoda Auto India, said, "It is heartening for us at Skoda that despite challenges posed by the semiconductor shortage, we are maintaining momentum with sales. Our innovative efforts to ensure our customers are not put through long waiting periods and take delivery of cars faster than wait times prevailing in the industry has been a key factor in our consistency. I would like to thank our network employees and customers for their tremendous support in achieving such incredible annual sales growth."

Both the Slavia compact sedan and the Kushaq compact SUV have been integral in boosting Skoda's volumes in India and achieve record monthly sales. Recently, the company also introduced the new Kushaq Monte Carlo in India, which is the top-end version of the SUV. Having said that, amidst the ongoing shortage for electronic components, Skoda is replacing the current touchscreen infotainment system fitted on the higher variants of the cars with a smaller unit. Which could affect some amount of customer sentiments towards the Kushaq and Slavia.
