Gran Turismo is arguably the most iconic automotive video game franchise of all time. It sits on top of leviathans like Microsoft's Forze franchise and EA's Need For Speed franchise which has even transitioned to the silver screen - but for many Gran Turismo and its realism is the ultimate and now it's latest avatar which is forthcoming for the era of the Sony PlayStation 5 could be the greatest automobile racing game of all time if one is to believe Kazunori Yamauchi, the CEO of Sony-owned studio Polyphony Digital and the producer and lead designer of the latest GT 7. Yamauchi gives a deep dive into the philosophy behind the game and shares what car culture means to him and how it can be experienced in the new Gran Turismo game.

"The breadth of automotive culture is very broad. I think the car is one of the most beautiful industrial products. The appreciation for the beauty of their shapes is car culture. But the car is also made to be driven by a person. Controlling these high-performance machines that far exceed human limits is another part of the car culture," Yamauchi explains.

Grand Turismo is considered to be the most advanced racing simulation

As the lead designer and the CEO of the studio which basically works on the iconic franchise, Yamauchi is the chief architect of the game. He is also a professional racing driver and has deep insights to the physics of a racing car.

"I really think that car culture is a very multi-faceted thing. Gran Turismo 7 is a comprehensive title and there are many different ways to play. Whether you drive fast, collect cars, design liveries in the editor, or take photos, all of these are elements of your 'life with cars'," Yamauchi continues.

The new game will land next year after many delays - March 4, 2022, is the d-day and it will be there for both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 users.
