2020 Nissan Magnite Subcompact SUV
The Nissan Magnite is the newest model that is set to enter the highly coveted and competitive subcompact SUV space. Based on Renault Nissan Alliance's CMF-A+ platform, which also underpins the Renault Triber, the new Magnite is bold, stylish and comes with a host of modern creature comforts.
The new Nissan Magnite retains most of the design and styling cues from the concept car that was showcased earlier this year. Adding to the style quotient, Nissan also offers the SUV in dual tone option, which particularly stunning in this Vivid Blue & Storm White shade.
One cannot help but notice the Datsun-style grille on the Magnite, which certainly take away some of the charm that Nissan's signature V-shape grille could have offered. However, we feel, the rest of the elements like the sleek LED projector headlights, the large L-shaped LED daytime running lamps and the sporty bumper make up for it.
At the rear, the new Magnite comes with a pair of stylish wraparound LED taillamps, with a sculpted tailgate that flaunts the Magnite lettering at the centre, while the bumper gets its rugged look thanks to the dual tone black and grey cladding. The roof mounted spoiler completes the sporty design.
The cabin of the Nissan Magnite is clean and minimalist, while the black interior looks sporty. The all-black dashboard comes with hexagonal central air-con vents with silver bezels, and a free-standing infotainment display. There are some good quality toggle switches for in-car controls, while the special tray designed to place cellphones/wireless charger, comes with engine start-stop button, same as the one on Renault Triber.
The new Nissan Magnite comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system that comes with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The air-con system comes with a nice dials, while the temperature control unit also displays the temperature read-out.
The rear seats come with a 60:40 split, and is wide enough to have 3 passengers abreast. The Magnite also comes with rear AC vents with a 12V socket, while the seats come with adjustable headrests and can be folded to create more space.
The Nissan Magnite comes with two petrol engine options - a 1.0 litre naturally aspirated motor and a 1.0 litre turbo petrol unit. While the former is tuned to make around 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque, the turbo-petrol unit makes 99 bhp and 160 Nm of torque.
Transmission duties are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox for both the engines, however, the turbo petrol unit also comes with an optional CVT automatic unit, and that one offers slightly less torque at 152 Nm.
The new Nissan Magnite will be offered in four key trims - XE, XL, XV and XV Premium, which are further classified into 20 different grades, based on optional features, along with engine and transmission choices. Nissan is also offering an optional 'Tech Pack' which will get add-on features like - wireless charger, air purifier, ambient mood lighting, puddle lamps and high-end speakers from JBL.
