2021 Audi Q5 Facelift
The second-generation Audi Q5 has finally received the much-awaited mid-cycle facelift, and the SUV has made its global debut at the company's headquarters in Ingolstadt, in Bavaria, Germany. While the updated Q5 will go on sale in Europe later this year, it will not come to India anytime before 2021.
The 2021 Audi Q5 get a fresh design emphasising its sporty character. In fact the Q5 has been largely successful due to its looks and styling, and Audi has ensured that the new design on the facelift doesn't disappoint us.
The facelifted Audi Q5 now sports a new, larger singleframe grille, which now gets a sporty black treatment with dark chrome borders. However, some trims will get vertical slats finished in chrome, with silver skid plate instead of this black one we see here. The SUV also gets larger foglamp housings, which are also finished in black.
The 2021 Q5 also comes with a pair of revised full-LED headlamps with new LED daytime running lamps. However, if you want the Matrix LED headlamps, then Audi does offer it as an optional feature.
The rear section features a redesigned tailgate, along with brand new OLED (organic light emitting diodes) taillights which light up a larger area more evenly, and come in 3 different rear light signatures or patterns. There is also a new diffuser and new tailpipes on offer.
The cabin also gets a fresh look thanks to the new colour palette and materials. The black interior is complimented by the tan leather upholstery and matching panels on the doors and centre console.
The biggest change inside the cabin is the 3rd generation Modular Infotainment Platform or MIB 3. The system is equipped with a 10.1-inch display, which is standard, and given the addition of voice and touch capability of MIB 3, the rotary dial below the gear stick is gone.
The latest infotainment system has ten times the computing capability of the previous system and it works in conjunction with the updated virtual instrument cluster allowing drivers to customise graphic layouts. It can also help save up to 6 driver profiles, so different drivers of the same car can save their settings.
Other features on offer with the 2021 Audi Q5 include a new centre console with wooden inlays, a wireless phone charging tray right in front of the central armrest, rear AC cents with a 12V socket and 2 UBS ports, along with headrest and 3-point seat belts for all passengers.
Under the hood, the 2021 Q5 gets a 2.0-litre TFSI quattro engine that comes in two states of tune - 200 bhp and 260 bhp, and both get a 12-volt mild hybrid system. There is a 3.0-litre V6 also on offer for the SQ5 TFSI quattro, which comes with a 48-volt mild hybrid EV system and makes 348 bhp.
The new Q5 facelift continues to get a host of driver aid functions, like the Audi pre sense city system which is standard, along with higher speed collision avoidance assist, adaptive cruise control lane keeping, emergency braking, and predictive efficiency assist.
The new Audi Q5 goes on to the market in Europe by August this year, while India is expected to get the SUV sometime in the first half of 2021. Audi India is likely to bring in CKD or completely knocked down kits of the Q5 facelift for local assembly.
