All-New Kia Sonet
The all-new Kia Sonet is the newest addition to the highly lucrative and populated subcompact SUV segment. It will be the third model to be launched by Kia Motors in India, and also its most-affordable one yet. The Sonet is based on the same platform as the Hyundai Venue and it will also share its powertrains with the latter.
The Kia Sonet subcompact SUV was first revealed as a pre-production concept at the 2020 Auto Expo, and compared to that the production version hardly comes with any changes. The sharp character lines, bold design and aggressive styling has all been retained.
Like its older sibling Kia Seltos, the new Sonet will also come in two options GT Line and Tech Line, with the former featuring sportier styling with black exterior elements and red accents.
Up front, the new Kia Sonet comes with the signature Tiger Nose grille in a glossy black shade, flanked by sleek LED headlamps, with a shepherd's crook-shaped LED daytime running lamps. The SUV also gets an aggressive front bumper with a wide airdam, red accents and a faux skid plate.
At the rear, the Kia Sonet comes with wraparound LED taillights connected by a red strip. The rear windshield gets a curved design, which along with the sloping C-pillar and the quarter glass gives it a very unique look. The sculpted tailgate and the cladded bumper add to its rugged design.
The Kia Sonet comes with a set of 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels with sporty red calipers and rugged wheel arch cladding. The red accents are exclusive to the GT Line option.
The Kia Sonet GT Line trim comes with an all-black cabin featuring a flat-bottom steering wheel, black upholstery and contrast red stitching. The well-equipped dashboard features vertical air-con vents and a segment-best 10.25-inch infotainment display.
The Kia Sonet also comes with rear AC vents along with an air purifier system similar to the Seltos.
The 10.25-inch HD touchscreen infotainment system, which will also feature the UVO Connected Car technology offering a host of connected car features. Additionally, the system also offers Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Navigation and more. It also comes with smartwatch connectivity.
The Kia Sonet also offers ventilated front seats, which will be a segment-first offering. Additionally, you also get a central armrest and GTLine logo on the seat covers.
The Kia Sonet will come with a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel motor and a 1.0-litre T-GDi turbo petrol engine. Transmission option will include a 5-speed and a 6-speed manual, a DCT automatic, the new iMT (Intelligent Manual Transmission) and a automatic torque converter.
In India, the Kia Sonet will have to compete with its cousin, the Hyundai Venue, along with other strong players in the subcompact SUV space like - the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Mahindra XUV300, Tata Nexon, and Ford EcoSport.
