TVS Apache RTR 160 Expert Review
Pros
- Powerful Engine
- Improved Braking and Suspension System
- Great performance
Cons
- The design needs to be improved
- Technological elements are needed in comparison to its rivals.
- Unrefined Motor.
The TVS Apache RTR 160 is TVS Motor Company's oldest motorcycle in its 160 cc portfolio. With a latest update late in 2022, the TVS Apache RTR 160 still manages to keep going. It's lightweight, frugal and easy to ride, although the engine cannot be called a refined unit by contemporary standards. Nevertheless, the Apache RTR 160 still has a considerable fan following, and is still one popuar motorcycle in the 160 cc segment.
TVS Apache RTR 160
In 2007, TVS Motor Co introduced its first entry level bike variant in its Apache range, the TVS Apache RTR 160. This commuter by TVS comes in the Disc and Drum variants and distinct colour options such as matte blue, pearl white, gloss black, gloss red, T-grey and matte red. This bike has a light bodyweight and more power than the previous models. The styling of this bike is largely inspired from the “racer-choice” theme and equipped with smart technologies and interesting ride modes. This model is committed to the Apache community. It continues the legacy of premium race-technologies to connect emotionally with racing enthusiasts.
How is the design?
The TVS Apache RTR 160 is carefully designed and branded with a racing approach and features an edgy and muscular design. The beast-inspired headlight of the bike gives it an aggressive appearance. The TVS Apache RTR 160 is also featured by the dual-coloured fuel tank with a chiseled engine cowl, extended shrouds and curved tail design. The racing graphics on the motorcycle endows its racing DNA and its sharp and sleek rear end complements the LED tail-lamp. The tyre has alloy wheels styled with petal discs of 270mm in the front. Pillion grab-rail and pillion footrest are available in this model, while pillion backrest is not included. The combination of digital speedometer, digital odometer and the analogue tachometer add to the stylish look of the bike. There is no under-seat storage and no charging port in this bike. However, there are additional features like clock, DRLs and digital fuel gauge.
How is the performance?
The TVS Apache RTR 160 is equipped with a single-cylinder, air-cooling 159.7 cc engine having a maximum torque of 13.1 Newton Metres at 4000 rpm and a power output of about 15bhp at 8500 rpm. It carries a 5-speed gearbox. The bike is able to hit a maximum speed of 118 kmph on an average, making it a good commuter in the city. The low-end torque makes it convenient for long rides on the weekends. The smoothness of the engines, good tyre grips and braking controls make it a comfortable commuter through busy traffic. There is still room for improving the build quality and sturdiness of the bike. However, the overall features and the fuel economy of the bike make it a good on-road performer.
How does the TVS Apache RTR 160 ride?
The TVS Apache RTR 160 has 3 different riding modes and these are rain, sport and urban. The bike has been easy and capable for fast rides. Instead of a plush ride, the suspension setup of the bike makes it increasingly adept at rounding around narrow corners intuitively.
The ergonomics of the bike is the only notable downside to its comfort. While the riding position of the bike is predominantly relaxing, the foot-pegs of the bike are almost rear set and also sit high up. For a tall person, this may feel cramped on long hauls.
How comfortable is the TVS Apache RTR 160?
Overall, the TVS Apache RTR 160 has a pretty good comfort ration and pickup compared to the other bikes in this segment. It is responsive both on highways and busy traffic and can easily cruise without effort at 80-100 kmph. The bike provides a nice upright position for riding and the comfortable plush seats will not strain the rider’s back. However, as mentioned earlier the ergonomics is a downside on long hauls. A tall person may find it difficult to ride long distances because the foot-pegs of the bike are almost rear set and also sit high up.
How's the Tech?
The TVS Apache RTR 160 is equipped with a single-cylinder, air-cooling 159.7 cc engine having a maximum torque of 13.1 Newton Metres at 4000 rpm and a power output of about 15bhp at 8500 rpm. The braking control is powered by a single-channel ABS. It carries a 5-speed gearbox. Additional technological features include GTT and RT-Fi and AHO. It is equipped with a digital fuel gauge, turn signals and DRLs. The tachometer in the bike has analogue functionality while the trip meter and odometer are digitalized. The technological specifications are similar to other racing bikes.
How's the mileage of the TVS Apache RTR 160?
The TVS Apache RTR 160 can give a mileage of about 45 to 50 kmpl on an average. In the city the bike is able to give an average mileage of 50.94 kmpl and up to 56 kmpl on highways. The fuel economy of this bike is pretty standard and similar to its competitors.

A best bike for city ride
By Rajendra Kumar Choudhury @ Sep 01, 2019 03:13 PM
4.0
A compact good looking bike , but the fibre used around speedo console and side panel gives the feel of a bit cheaper quality. Pick up is awesome, a boon to drive in city traffic , how ever it starts to vibrate a lot around a speed range of 45-65 kmph , after that >65kmph feels comparatively smoother(though still vibration exists).. due to shorter wheel base maneuverability in city is awesome but feels bit unstable at speeds around 100kmph.. Mileage is around 45kmpl in cityand around 52-55kmpl in highways @ speeds <80kmph... Final verdict is a good looking bike for young bikers.(@present time it feels dated as compared to fzs v2, gixxer, hornet and pulsar 160ns ) .
