SAVWIPL, VW Group’s India arm, has crossed 2 million locally produced cars as it marks 25years in the country.
The first locally manufactured models started rolling out in 2001 & it was the Skoda Octavia which kicked off series production in India.
SAVWIPL currently locally manufactures a range of models under the Skoda, Volkswagen& Audi brands across its plants in Chakan & Chhatrapati Sambhaji nagar.
Over 5 lakh of the 2 million units were India 2.0 models: Skoda Kushaq, Slavia, Kodiaq &VW Taigun, Virtus as well as Tiguan. The last 5 lakh cars were built in just 3.5 years
The India 2.0 plan has boosted Skoda & VW sales. Skoda saw its best year in 2022 after the Kushaq & Slavia launched, & is now on track to set another record in 2025.
On the international business front, SAVWIPL revealed that exports from India had crossed the 7 lakh unit mark.
