Highlights

We recently told you that Hyundai, the South Korean car manufacturer, had decided to end the production of one of its best-selling product - the Hyundai Santro. The hatchback, first introduced in 1998, wasn't only a hit among families but was also quite the favourite in the nation's taxi market. However, with the end of Santro's life-cycle, Hyundai now intends to introduce the i10 hatchback in the taxi market of the following metro cities: Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

The carmaker's decision to introduce the hatchback in the taxi-market seems to have been timed rather well, especially as far as Mumbai is concerned, for the city is expected to hand out almost 8,000 taxi-permits over the next 6 months.

The top folks at the company believe that the decision to usher in the i10 hatchback in the taxi-market will help it further strengthen its position in the segment. Considering that Santro owed its popularity to its affordability and low cost of operation, Hyundai just might have another winner in the taxi-segment with the i10.

In order to ensure that the market's requirements are met, Hyundai will offer the hatchback with CNG and in a new trim that will come without a power-steering and A/C.
