Jaguar has been always big on technology. The British carmaker has announced that it will be unveiling new engine technologies for its current model portfolio and the future models as well. Jaguar says that these new engines are a testimony to its commitment towards reducing emissions and increasing efficiency. It sees itself doing so through alternative powertrains, lighter vehicles and vehicle energy conservation.

The first new engine that Jaguar will be adding is the all-new 4-cylinder Ingenium petrol motor. It is being built at Jaguar Land Rover's £1 billion Engine Manufacturing Centre in UK. Jaguar says that this engine will offer up to 25 per cent more power and use 15 per cent less fuel.

The other major innovation comes in the form of the TRANSCEND project, which is Jaguar's new automatic transmission that will not only help in extracting better efficiency out of the engine and also expand the all-wheel drive capability of its cars. Jaguar has invested close to £30 million in this project. The TRANSCEND is an 8-speed automatic unit and it makes use of a 20:1 gearing ratio, which integrates a low-range option along with a dual-clutch unit and also hybrid tech. these advancements will make off-roading easier and also help deliver better fuel economy by nearly 10 per cent. This particular transmission unit weighs 20kg less than the existing 8-speed units and can be installed in longitudinal RWD and AWD systems.

All the new Ingenium petrol engines will have technologies such as electrohydraulic valvetrain, integrated exhaust manifold, twin scroll turbochargers with ceramic ball-bearing technology and so on. Jaguar Land Rover believes that by 2020, these new technologies will help all its models reduce CO2 emissions by a solid 25 per cent. Jaguar's common architecture based on a 500cc per cylinder displacement not only is a flexible option but also increases scaleability.
