The thickly populated compact sedan segment was born years ago, but back then the sub-four meter sedans did not have many takers. Pioneering with Indigo eCS, Tata Motors was instrumental in kick starting the now popular segment which has aplenty options including the segment best Maruti Swift Dzire. Based on the flagship hatchback Swift, Dzire bears strong resemblance to its smaller sibling. Now why this sudden interest in the sub-four meter sedans you must be wondering, well the low excise duty levied on sub-four meter vehicles using engines equal to or less than 1.5 litres implicates competitive pricing. This further gets better with high claimed mileage and host of features stuffed inside for the comfort of occupants. So, if we look at it like this, owing a sedan in the same price spent on a premium hatchback made things work for this segment. Coming back to Swift Dzire, the compact sedan is available with a choice of diesel and petrol engines in manual and AMT gearbox options. The most important factor driving Dzire’s sale is the pricing; that said, Maruti Swift Dzire price is quite aggressively placed.
Maruti Swift Dzire Exterior
Exteriors are styled in line with Swift as it shares key styling elements with the hatchback. The face gets a single slat chrome grille and lower side of the bumper comes with air dams and round fog lamps with bezel chrome ornament. View from the side is familiar to Swift hatchback, especially the tapering window glass. There is a prominent beltline that is stretched upto the tail lamps. And rear is what really makes it differ from its hatchback twin. At the back are sharp wrap around tail lamps, chrome garnish running across boot lid and a large bumper.
Maruti Swift Dzire Interior
The dual tone dashboard looks neat with AC vents placed at the top of centre console. Maruti has provided various storage points including a cubbyhole on the floor console, door pockets, bottle holders, seat back pockets etc. Use of chrome around AC vents, steering wheel, inside door handles etc looks plush. The instrument cluster is large and allows easy view to the driver. The beige themed upholstery looks premium and seats come with adjustable head restraints. There is an armrest placed at the centre of the rear seat which can be folded to create more space. Boot space is where you feel disappointed as it does not offer enough room for storage.
