UP Might Get Buses Powered by Human Waste

Last year, a bus fuelled by human and food waste made its maiden journey in the United Kingdoms. The bus is now set to arrive in India. Apparently the Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) is looking to induct these buses in its fleet for intra-city routes. If this project with Scania, the Swedish company that makes these buses, comes to conclusion, it will make UP the first Indian state to have bio-fuel powered buses.
These buses not only provide a tenable means of public transport, but also help improve the quality of air. Britain, Italy, Sweden and Poland already have buses that are powered by human waste.
Concerned officials clarified that Scania will tend to the entire operation, including maintenance among other things. However, UPSRTC will pay the company for the service.
As far as sourcing the raw material is concerned, officials cited the example of Agra that produces over 320 million litres of waste per day. Other than that, the city also produces additional solid waste.
