The popular mid-size hatchback Celerio was launched by Maruti Suzuki at the 2014 Auto Expo. Much in demand for being the first AMT equipped hatchback in India, Celerio is offered with three fuel options-petrol, diesel and CNG. Engine choices include 998cc petrol and 800cc diesel unit mated to a five-speed manual transmission, while the AMT gearbox is restricted to petrol variants. One of the most fuel efficient options across segments; Celerio diesel returns ARAI rated fuel economy of 27.6km/l and even the petrol powered variant is quite frugal claiming to deliver 23.1km/l.

While the overall exterior styling is simple, the face gets triple slat chrome grille and swept-back head lamps. View from side is again austere featuring creases, ORVMs with turn indicators and flared wheel arches. Rear gets a spoiler on top and petal shaped tail lamps along with body coloured bumper.

Cabin is styled in tandem with other budget cars from Maruti and so the quality of plastic used inside is not up-market. The temperature dials, AC vents and buttons on centre console are quite dated, but where the car scores well is storage points.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio Engine Specifications & Transmission
Engine set up comprises of 998cc, three cylinder unit powering petrol & CNG range and 800cc diesel mill. The K10B petrol engine develops maximum power of 67bhp & 90Nm in petrol mode and 58bhp & 78Nm in CNG mode. Built in-house by Maruti Suzuki India, the two cylinder, 793cc, DDiS engine is capable of belting out 47bhp at 3500rpm. A five-speed manual gearbox is mated to both the engines, whereas the auto gear shift unit is available only on the petrol variants.

Exteriors get body coloured door handles & bumpers, ORVMs with turn indicators, front fog lamps in higher trims, chrome grille and full wheel caps on entire range save for the top-spec trim which comes with alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, the hatchback packs in front seat back pockets, electronic power steering, integrated front & rear head rests, 60:40 rear split seat, height adjuster for driver, glove box, gear position indicator in AGS trims and information display integrated into instrument cluster among others.
Maruti Suzuki Celerio Performance & Mileage
The petrol variant of Celerio is claimed to return ARAI rated mileage of 23.1km/l and in CNG mode, the hatchback can deliver 31.7km/kg. Maruti’s indigenous 800cc, diesel unit is quite frugal; in standard conditions the diesel engine can run up to 27.63km/l.

Power to retard speed comes from ventilated disc brakes in front and drum units at rear. There is an option for anti-lock-braking system on the entire range.

Airbags and ABS are standard on top-of-the-line variants and rest of the range get it as optional fitments. Other safety features aboard include rear centre seat belt, head light levelling, rear window wiper & washer, high mounted stop lamp, immobilizer, child proof rear door locks, front intermittent wipers & washers, rear window demister and outside temperature display available on the AGS trims.

Tyres are available in two sizes- 155/80R13 and 165/70R14 units. Full wheel caps are offered on base and mid-level trims and alloy rims are available exclusively on the range toping variant.
