GM Defense Develops A One-Off Electric ISV Concept

- The GM electric ISV is a one-off concept vehicle.
- It's the electric version of the regular ISV that GM supplies to US Army.
- The electric GM ISV uses General Motors' eCrate electric powertrain.
GM has developed a one-off, electric version of its Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV) which it calls an All Electric Concept Vehicle. It is a concept vehicle and uses the General Motors eCrate electric powertrain consisting of an electric motor making around 200 bhp and 361 Nm of peak torque. There's also a 60-kilowatt-hour, 400-volt battery, and the range is estimated at 112 to 240 km. To give you an idea, the standard version of the ISV uses a 2.8-litre, four-cylinder Duramax turbo diesel engine that makes over 182 bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque.

GM Defense has a $214.3 million military contract to build the combustion-powered ISV for the Army.
Now as standard it gets a rear-wheel-drive setup but GM says that it can work as a four-wheel-drive (4WD) as well as the motor is sending the power through a transfer case. Now in terms of looks, the electric ISV is slightly different. It gets a pickup bed at the rear instead of seats. So this one has place for just five passengers instead of nine. The floor of the cargo area is made of the same carbon fibre as what's available on the GMC Sierra. This bed is around 5.0-inch longer than the regular nine-seater ISV but the wheelbase remains identical.

The GM ISV is a nine-seater vehicle powered by a 2.8-litre turbo diesel engine.
The version of the ISV that GM Defense supplies to the US Army uses around 90 percent off-the-shelf parts from existing vehicles, especially from the Colorado ZR2 pickup. GM Defense has a $214.3 million military contract to build the combustion-powered ISV for the Army. The initial order is for 639 units, but the contract also gives an option of ramping up the delivery to 2,065 vehicles.
