BMW Motorrad India has teased the unveiling of its luxury touring motorcycle range with the BMW K 1600 GT and the BMW K 1600 GTL. Late last year, BMW Motorrad updated the 2022 K 1600 range with an updated engine and electronics, new features and colour options, and now looks like the luxury touring models will be introduced in India as well. Globally, BMW Motorrad offers four models in the BMW K 1600 line-up. For India, only two of these models, the K 1600 GT and K 1600 GTL are expected to be introduced.

Both bikes are powered by a 1,649 cc inline six-cylinder engine which makes 158 bhp at 6,750 rpm and 179 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm.

The inline six-cylinder 1,649 cc engine makes 158 bhp at 6,750 rpm and 179 Nm of peak torque at 5,250 rpm. The updated engine now gets usable power as low as 1,000 rpm, and two knock sensors on the back of the cylinder bank keep the motor smooth, even with lower octane fuel. Two new lambda sensors, together with the six exhaust manifold sensors monitor the performance of the combustion chambers.

The BMW K 1600 GTL has a standard top box in addition to the hard-case panniers, and is designed for better pillion comfort.

Electronic traction control is now standard and a six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) ensures the system is working correctly. In Dynamic ride mode, the system allows a little bit of rear wheel spin, compared to Rain and Road modes. The bikes also come with BMW's latest version semi-active suspension, which come with two settings, Dynamic and Road. Cornering aware adaptive LED headlights are standard, and the bikes get a 10.25-inch TFT instrument console, which has a split screen with navigation and connectivity includes both helmet and smartphone options.

The BMW K 1600 GTL offers a standard top box and is designed for more pillion comfort. The K 1600 GTL also comes with an optional Comfort package, which includes a quickshifter, auxiliary LED headlight, engine protection bar, keyless ride, central locking system and anti-theft alarm. Internationally, BMW offers a standard version of the GTL along with two optional styling choices. Prices are expected to be upwards of Rs. 30 lakh for the models.
