A stretched wheelbase 108 mm results in a massive 109 mm increase in rear legroom, which is close to X3 levels of legroom.
Rear seat squab is extended by 15 mm to provide better under-thigh support.
Upgraded 1.5-litre three-cylinder TwinPower turbo-petrol engine makes 20 bhp over the standard petrol model and uses a responsive 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Has Level 2 ADAS suite with rear cross-traffic alert with brake intervention, dynamic cruise control with braking and more.
BMW Park Plus system with a 360-degree surround-view camera and reverse assistant makes low-speed manoeuvring and parking this stretched X1 effortless.
It has a curved display running BMW OS9 with wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, floating centre console, Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic glass roof, and powered front seats with memory.
Aggressive introductory pricing undercuts the outgoing standard petrol X1 while offering substantially more space and standard equipment.

Cons

Long-wheelbase format is only offered in a front-wheel-drive 1.5-litre petrol powertrain version.
Despite improved rear-seat comfort, it misses out on rear door sunblinds, dedicated rear blower controls, and "boss mode" buttons to adjust the front passenger seat from behind.
Front seats do not have a seat ventilation feature.
The 3-cylinder engine can be heard under hard acceleration, and lacks the seamless, silky refinement of their 2.0-litre four-cylinder units.

Verdict

The 2026 BMW X1 Long-Wheelbase is directly targeted at Indian luxury car buyers who prioritise rear-seat room and chauffeur-driven comfort over sheer driving agility. By increasing the wheelbase, lengthening the seat base, throwing in Level 2 ADAS, bumping petrol power to about 154 bhp, and keeping the price attractive (launching at Rs 49.90 lakh), the BMW X1 LWB is certainly a more compelling buy.

Seshan Vijayraghvan said in his review, "The X1 LWB is a more complete package than the standard model. It offers more space, better comfort, stronger performance and additional safety tech, while retaining the X1’s premium appeal."

While the absence of rear sunblinds, front seat cooling, AWD and a diesel engine option leaves much to be desired, the added cabin space and upgraded safety tech make this easily the most sensible and complete iteration of the X1 to buy for everyday Indian driving conditions.
