Hyundai Exter

Introduction 

• Hyundai brought in the Exter mainly to rival the Tata Punch and the Citroen C3 in the Indian market. 

• It sits below the Venue and is based on the Grand i10 Nios. 

• Launched in India at an introductory starting price of Rs. 6 lakh (ex-showroom), it continues to be offered in seven variants with petrol and CNG powertrains. 

Exterior 

• With an upright stance, the Exter's roof rails along with the squared arches and 15-inch alloy wheels lend it an SUV stance. 

• As for its dimensions, it is 3,815mm in length, 1,710mm in width, and 1,631mm in height. 

• Notably, its wheelbase is 2,450mm which is longer than any of its rivals. 

• Up front is a 'parametric-jewel' design language on the front grille. 

• It's for the first time on a Hyundai model, the ‘Exter’ lettering is seen on the front. 

• The headlamp clusters are bumper-mounted and the H-shaped DRLs are placed higher and in line with the bonnet. 

• This is the brand’s entry-level SUV, which again gets the signature 'H-shape' in its tail lamps, and 'parametric' jewel design on the tailgate. 

Interior 

• Like the Aura and Nios, the Exter's cabin gets familiar elements with a black theme and a honeycomb pattern on the dashboard. 

• The contrasting highlight on the circular aircon vents continues to be seen here. 

• However, the five-seater compact SUV gets a digital instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch MID and 12 customisable languages. 

• There's an integrated 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. 

• Other major highlights include a sunroof, rear AC vents, front and rear skid plates, LED DRLs, and headlamps with escort function.  

Powertrain 

• Hyundai’s 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPi petrol engine powers the Exter. 

• It produces 82bhp and 113.8Nm torque. 

• Transmission options include either a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT. 

• This engine can also be had with CNG power, but the power output is 68bhp and 95Nm torque. 

• Also, the CNG Exter comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox only. 

• The Exter is the first Hyundai car to switch to its HY-duo CNG setup, identical to Tata's twin-cylinder technology.
