India's wait for an accessible, all-electric Honda SUV will come to an end in the next two years. On the first day of the Japan Mobility Show 2025, Honda revealed the 0 α electric SUV prototype, which will go into production in 2027, and will also be launched in India that same year. The 0 α previews the smallest, and most affordable model in Honda's 0 Series EV family, and is initially targeted only at Japan and India. The 0 α, in Honda's words, is being developed as an SUV that blends into both urban and natural environments, and designed to offer ‘outstanding passenger comfort’.
The Honda 0 α is a visibly condensed version of the larger Honda 0 SUV showcased earlier in 2025, adopting the same ‘Thin, Light and Wise’ development philosophy. Honda wanted to create an SUV that had sufficient ground clearance, but without being too tall, and to that effect, the company claims it has designed a ‘thin’ cabin, while retaining the wide stance expected of an SUV.
The grille area is replaced by a sealed-off gloss black panel housing the charge port, and above it is a full-width LED daytime running light that flows into the LED headlights. The front bumper incorporates silver inserts that create the visual effect of a skid plate, and the prototype rides on dual-tone, 19-inch wheels shod in Goodyear tyres.
Battery sizes are likely to be in the range of 50-70 kWh, which will help Honda's SUV compete on an even footing with models from other carmakers. Honda is understood to be targeting a range of 400 to 500 kilometres with the 0 α SUV.
