car&bike Expert Take

“The new Lamborghini Urus SE brings a fresh spark to the high-end SUV market by adding a hybrid system to its loud V8 engine. It balances green electric range with loud, angry speed. While it also gains some weight, the added power keeps it quick and very fun to push hard.”

When the original Urus hit Indian markets in 2018, it was a big deal for the Italian brand. As the subcontinent’s interests and ambitions began to shift towards the EV space, Lamborghini needed to act soon, and so they did, by announcing the Urus SE in 2024. This vehicle is the first of its kind for the firm, using a plug-in hybrid setup that puts the familiar 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 with a new electric motor into the same setup.

This change has fully altered the SUV's feel now, allowing it to drive silently in EV mode while keeping the aggressive V8 ready for long trips. Lamborghini has also tweaked the shape and given it a fresh face with a new bonnet and front bumper. On the mechanical side, the 2026 update brings better brake cooling, enhanced aerodynamics, and an updated cabin.

Starting at Rs. 4.57 crore before options, the first look of this super SUV was checked out by Amaan Ahmed, while our car&bike team had covered all the details surrounding its launch. We have added a few of Amaan’s insights about the Urus SE in this review; you’ll come across them below.

Under the hood, the Urus SE packs a serious punch. The 4.0-litre V8 produces some decent power on its own, but the electric motor brings the total system output to a giant 789 bhp and 950 Nm of torque. This lets the big SUV hit 100 kmph in just 3.4 seconds, according to the manufacturer. It also beats the older versions easily, pushing all the way to a top speed of 312 kmph.

Amaan mentions,

“This is the most powerful version of the bestselling Lamborghini of all time: the Lamborghini Urus SE.”

The eight-speed automatic works well, while the battery uses Prismatic cells that keep the car's low-slung balance in check. This 25.9 kWh pack does not hamper speed at all, since the electric motor steps in to keep the power delivery consistent.

Driving Experience: Real World

The Urus SE behaves like two completely different cars depending on your mood and the selected drive mode.

City Driving

In heavy traffic, the Urus SE transforms into a quiet cruiser. With the EV Drive mode selected, you can travel up to 60 km without waking the V8. The electric motor provides enough pull to clear junctions quickly. The giant 23-inch wheels do make the ride a bit firm over bad patches, but the air suspension helps iron out such moments.

Highway Driving

Out on the highway, the hybrid system shines. If you flatten the pedal, the V8 and electric motor join forces to deliver a sudden, aggressive burst of speed. It covers distances fast, and the new torque vectoring system keeps the large body stable through long, wide turns. Engine noise is loud and clear above 4,000 rpm.

The styling of the Urus SE focuses on clean design details rather than a full makeover. It retains the edgy lines of the older model, but also introduces a new bonnet that stretches all the way to the car's front. This profile gives the vehicle a slightly cleaner, more polished look, while its wheels push far out to the corners, keeping the posture wide.

It sits wide and tall, casting a large shadow over most cars. However, it still falls short of some rivals in sheer length.

Wheelbase3,003 mm2,895 mm3,060 mm

By checking out the Urus SE against other cars like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid and the Aston Martin DBX707, we can clearly see the Lamborghini’s longer design of 5,123 mm.

The exterior updates are easy to spot if you know where to look. The overall shape remains loud and proud, keeping the standard edgy angles that buyers expect, but Lamborghini has also focused on adding small touches to clean up the air flow.

Front Profile

  • The LED headlights are slimmer and feature a new C-shaped daytime running light layout.
  • The bonnet ditches the old cutlines and flows right to the edge, featuring new ripples for an aggressive look.
  • The front bumper uses gloss black inserts to break up the size.
  • The lower air intakes are now noticeably larger to cool the hybrid bits.

Amaan observes,

“The redesigned LED headlights feature a DRL signature supposedly inspired by the tail of the bull in the Lamborghini logo.”

Side Profile

  • The side view is dominated by giant 23-inch “Gallanthus” alloy wheels, which are the largest factory option.
  • Behind the spokes sit giant 440 mm front carbon ceramic brakes, needed to stop the big SUV.

Rear Profile

  • A new dark trim piece runs across the entire width of the tailgate, pulling inspiration from older sports cars in the brand's history.
  • The rear diffuser is redrawn to help air slip away cleanly, making the car more stable at high speeds.

Pros

  • Massive 789 bhp system output
  • Useful 60 km electric range
  • Sharp and highly customisable interior

Cons

  • The battery pack adds heavy weight
  • Boot space is slightly compromised
  • Very expensive optional extras

Verdict

The Lamborghini Urus SE changes the old formula. By adding a battery pack and an electric motor, the brand could have muted the car, but it became faster and far more usable in bad traffic instead. You can run silently on electric power for the morning school drop-off. Later, you can unleash all 789 bhp on an open highway. The ride is firm but never uncomfortable, and the twin-turbo V8 still punches hard when you push the throttle down.

Wearing a hefty price tag, it does ask for a huge premium, but the updates to the cabin and the suspension tweaks make it feel worth the money. It has now turned into a proper, capable vehicle in the city and an absolute beast on highways. The Urus SE, therefore, is a deeply sensible machine for those who want supercar speeds, range efficiency, and high ground clearance in the same package.
