In our real-world tests, we managed around 45 km before the V8 woke up. When the battery is empty, the engine works hard to move the extra weight, dropping the fuel efficiency to single digits quickly. You can also use the engine to charge the battery while driving, but this burns even more fuel. Highway runs, meanwhile, yield decent numbers if you stick to speed limits.

For a vehicle capable of hitting 312 kmph, stopping power and crash safety are top priorities. For this, the Urus SE relies on some serious hardware and clever tech to keep things from going wrong.

Passive Safety and Crash Protection

The core shell is built from high-strength steel and aluminium. It feels stiff over bumps, and the thick doors shut with a firm clunk. Inside, eight airbags wrap the cabin to protect passengers from all angles.

Active Safety and Stability Systems

The best safety feature is the braking system. The 440 mm carbon ceramic front discs bite hard and stop the giant SUV straight and true. The new electronic limited-slip differential and torque vectoring system constantly shifts power to the wheels with the most grip, preventing slides before they happen. It also includes basic Level 2 ADAS features like lane keeping and adaptive cruise control for highway trips.

Safety Verdict

The sheer size and grip levels make the Urus SE a highly secure place to sit. The electronics gently step in when needed, making it easy to drive fast without feeling nervous. However, we also need to point out that it has no official safety rating from either Bharat NCAP or Euro NCAP.

The electric powertrain of the plug-in hybrid system is paired with a 25.9 kWh battery pack located under the boot floor, which eats into the overall cargo capacity a little bit. However, the boot remains vast at 616 litres, and is very usable for airport runs. You can easily fit two large suitcases and a couple of soft bags. The loading lip sits at a fair height, so lifting heavy items requires a slight effort. Still, it easily handles weekend luggage for four passengers.

Batteries and motors make a car heavier than usual, but Lamborghini has done well to hide the SUV's overall weight using clever suspension tricks and raw power. Its chassis feels incredibly stiff and responsive.

City Driving

The SUV can cover up to 60 km on electric power alone, which makes the morning commute eerily quiet. Interestingly, as we mentioned before, the battery uses Prismatic cells. In EV Drive mode, it behaves like a normal luxury car, and the ride over broken city tarmac feels composed. It crashes through potholes only if you hit them really hard. Meanwhile, at low speeds, the steering is light and makes parking this wide vehicle relatively simple.

Highway Driving

When the road opens up, the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 under the hood wakes up. The engine is paired with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic gearbox. Total system output stands at 789 bhp and 950 Nm. The sheer speed of this vehicle pins you to the seat, and the gears shift aggressively in Corsa mode. You can even use the V8 engine to recharge the battery on the go.

• If you plan to use it for work commutes, keep the wheel size reasonable. Pick a subtle exterior shade like grey or dark blue and rely heavily on the 60 km EV range for city traffic.
