BMW F900XR Latest Updates

The BMW F900XR is the newest addition to the XR family and made its global debut at the EICMA Motorcycle Show in 2019. The new bike is positioned below the litre-class S1000XR that is four-cylinder motorcycle, while the F900XR is a twin-cylinder motorcycle intended to be less intimidating for motorcyclists. Visually, the F900XR is based on the bigger BMW S1000XR. The new F900XR looks like a slightly smaller, and sleeker version of the bigger model, and is positioned as a sport touring model.

The BMW F900XR gets the split LED headlamp, quarter-fairing, gold-finished USD forks, a stubby tail section and full LED lighting. The bike gets a Bluetooth-enabled 6.5-inch TFT instrument console and the feature list also includes ABS, switchable traction control and two riding modes (Road and Rain). The BMW Pro Package further adds more features to the motorcycle.

The BMW F900XR sports a new 900 cc parallel-twin engine, essentially a bored out version of the parallel-twin engine of the BMW F850GS, up from 853 cc to 895 cc. The engine has a bigger 86 mm bore, with stroke remaining the same 77 mm and develops 105 bhp at 8,750 rpm, with peak torque of 91 Nm at 6,500 rpm. The new engine has two balancer shafts to keep vibrations in check, and a 277/450 firing order. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and a mechanically-operated anti-hopping clutch.

Suspension duties are handled by 43 mm USD forks up front along with 142 mm travel and preload and rebound-adjustable monoshock at the rear with 172 mm travel. Braking comes from a pair of 320 mm discs with radially-mounted floating calipers at the front and a 265 mm single disc with a single-piston floating caliper at the rear. The kerb weigh stands at 219 kg. The BMW F900XR is expected to go on sale in India in 2020 and will be positioned as a sports tourer. Prices are expected around Rs. 13-14 lakh (ex-showroom) for the upcoming motorcycle.
