What's New?
Adventure sport-tourers are all the rage in India right now, but it's the middleweight ADV segment that has received a fresh influx, as BMW Motorrad launched the 2022 BMW F 900 XR at Rs. 12.30 lakh (ex-showroom, India). First launched in 2020, the BMW F 900 XR receives multiple updates for 2022, including a BS6-compliant engine, and new safety features. The 2022 BMW F 900 XR will be available as completely built-up units (CBU), while deliveries will commence by June 2022.
There are not many changes to the design and so retains most of the elements from the earlier model. Available in Light White and Style Sport Racing Red paintwork, the 2022 BMW F 900 XR features dual headlamps, a small visor, and a sharp face. The typical ADV beak is missing though. The fuel tank is sculpted and is flanked by grey panels, which add width and muscle to the motorcycle. The rear end is minimalistic.
It sits on 43 mm gold-finished upside-down forks and a 17-inch die-cast Aluminium wheel wrapped in thick 120/70 XR 17 rubber. At the rear is also a 17-inch die-cast Aluminium wrapped in thicker 180/55 ZR 17 rubber. The 2022 BMW F 900 XR gets twin 320 mm discs along with 4-piston Brembo radial calipers while the rear wheel gets a 265 mm disc with a single-piston floating caliper.
The heart of the 2022 BMW F 900 XR is powered by BS6 895 cc, water-cooled, 4-stroke in-line 2-cylinder engine developing 103 bhp @8,500 rpm and maximum torque of 92 Nm @6,500 rpm. The motorcycle sprints from 0-100 kmph in 3.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of over 200 kmph. The 6.5-inch full-colour TFT screen is a standard fitment.
The new standard features of the 2022 BMW F 900 XR offers keyless ride and centre stand as standard as part of the Comfort package, while the Dynamic Package gets Headlight Pro, Daytime Riding Lights, and Gear Shift Assist Pro. There's also the Active Package that brings Riding Modes Pro, Dynamic Engine Brake Control (MSR), Heated Grips, Dynamic Traction Control, ABS Pro, and case holders.
BMW F900XR Expert Review
Pros
- Engine performance
- Handling and Ride Quality
- Features and Electronics
Cons
- Cost of ownership
- Limited sales and service
- Lack of off-road capability
The BMW F 900 XR may be a middleweight sport touring machine, and not have the off-road capability or versatility of a full-blown ADV. But it shines with its powerful engine, comfortable ergonomics and superb dynamics.
