Built locally in Chennai, the long-wheelbase BMW X1 is available as a single, fully loaded petrol variant. BMW has stretched its overall length to 4,616 mm and expanded the wheelbase by 108 mm over the standard model to 2,800 mm.
It’s an option for urban families who want a tech-filled compact SUV that has all the premium qualities associated with the German badge. When Seshan Vijayraghvan got behind its wheel, he observed many things about the BMW X1 LWB. One thing that stood out was,
“The new X1 LWB offers more features, more safety tech and a more powerful petrol engine.”

If you want high rear-seat space at a price point below the standard model, you can go for the BMW X1 LWB. Its rear seat comfort easily beats a lot of similarly priced rivals, while the suspension returns a smooth and comfortable ride over rough Indian roads. The only practical thing you’ll have to keep in mind is that it’s not a performance-driven car.

Verdict
The 2026 BMW X1 Long-Wheelbase is directly targeted at Indian luxury car buyers who prioritise rear-seat room and chauffeur-driven comfort over sheer driving agility. By increasing the wheelbase, lengthening the seat base, throwing in Level 2 ADAS, bumping petrol power to about 154 bhp, and keeping the price attractive (launching at Rs 49.90 lakh), the BMW X1 LWB is certainly a more compelling buy.

While the absence of rear sunblinds, front seat cooling, AWD and a diesel engine option leaves much to be desired, the added cabin space and upgraded safety tech make this easily the most sensible and complete iteration of the X1 to buy for everyday Indian driving conditions.
