Latest News On Jazz

  • Fourth Generation Honda Jazz Teaser Is Promising
    Siddharth Vinayak Patankar | Sep 27, 2023
Fourth Generation Honda Jazz Teaser Is Promising
Honda has released a teaser image of one of the most significant debuts it will make at this month's Tokyo Motor Show. The image is of the upcoming next generation Honda Jazz and the company has not revealed much. It's more the car's silhouette than anything, but if you look closely, three things are very evident. The car appears to have a slightly lower profile with a longer wheelbase, and yet short overhangs. This tells you that while the cabin is likely more roomy, the overall length will probably still stay under 4 metres - crucial for us in the Indian context. The second is that the styling appears to move away from the last car's edgy straight lines and taller look to a more rounded and conventional proportion. The hood is longer and not as angled and the headlights are now more rounded and upswept - with a snub-nosed thick chrome grille, as seen in recent models like the Honda Civic and Honda CR-V. And thirdly, the car also seems to have cup shaped DRLs (daytime running lights) and a more horizontal and wrap-around style tail lamp cluster. And there's a shark fin antenna on the roof.

However, ahead of the unveil, a leaked image of the new hatchback has made its way online revealing the all-new design. The leaked image is that of the 2020 Honda Jazz Type-R and reveals the completely new design language on the offering. The new Jazz will be showcased at the 2020 Tokyo Motor Show early next year. As the image suggests, the new gen Jazz gets a complete redesign, while retaining the generous proportions that it is known for.

Honda Jazz: Prioritizing Safety with Every Journey

The Honda Jazz upholds Honda’s strong safety legacy, boasting commendable Global NCAP ratings that reflect its dedication to passenger protection. Even as an older model, it competes admirably with newer-generation vehicles, emphasizing Honda’s consistent commitment to safety.

The Ratings Explained

The Honda Jazz has earned a 4-star Global NCAP rating for adult occupant protection with a score of 13.89 out of 17, and a 3-star rating for child occupant protection scoring 31.54 out of 49. These ratings underscore the car’s solid safety performance and Honda’s emphasis on passenger security.

Adult and Child Occupant Protection

With a focus on maintaining a safe environment, the Jazz’s design minimizes injury risk to adults and provides substantial protection for child occupants, despite the absence of Isofix mounts and a 3-point seatbelt in the rear middle seat.

Safety Assist Technologies

- Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD): These systems work together to maintain vehicle control and optimize braking performance under different load conditions and during sudden maneuvers.

- Engine Immobilizer: This security feature prevents the engine from being started without the authorized key, deterring vehicle theft.

- Central Locking: Central locking system offers convenience and an added layer of security.

The 2018 Honda Jazz was an upgraded iteration of Honda's premium hatchback, offering a compelling blend of spaciousness, comfort, engine reliability, and a robust assortment of tech features. Positioned within the highly competitive premium hatchback segment, it contended with formidable rivals such as the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.

The design and styling of the 2018 Honda Jazz remained largely faithful to its predecessor, maintaining a sleek and sporty aesthetic characterised by a prominent grille, angular headlights and a gently sloping roofline. Notable updates included the introduction of new LED tail lights, featuring an eye-catching tubular element connecting the split parts, and the incorporation of chrome door handles on the top-spec variant. Additionally, the model introduced two fresh colour options – Radiant Red and Lunar Silver.

The most significant changes in the 2018 Honda Jazz were found on the inside. The vehicle boasted of a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Digipad 2.0, equipped with navigation, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, reverse camera display, and voice command functionality. The steering wheel integrated cruise control capabilities, in addition to audio and phone controls. The push-start button, while illuminated in red, remained absent in the top-spec petrol variant. Other enhancements included the addition of a front centre armrest, a driver-side vanity mirror, and improved noise insulation. The cabin itself was spacious and well-ventilated, providing ample headroom, legroom, and storage space.

The 2018 Honda Jazz placed a strong emphasis on safety, with a comprehensive array of features offered as standard across all trim levels. These included dual airbags, ABS, rear parking sensors, speed-sensing door locks, and seat belt reminders. The vehicle's robust body structure was proficient at absorbing impacts. However, it did not incorporate advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as lane-keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, or autonomous emergency braking.

Buyers could choose between two engines. The first one was a 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 89 bhp and 110 Nm of torque. The second one was a 1.5-litre diesel engine that was more powerful with 99 bhp and 200 Nm of torque. Both engines came with a 5-speed manual transmission, but the petrol engine could also be had with a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT automatic) for more flexibility. These engines were designed to run smoothly, save fuel, and be environmentally friendly. However, they were not as powerful and exciting as some other engines found in similar cars.

Pros

  • Spacious
  • Good Handling
  • Reliable Honda Quality

Cons

  • Dated Design
  • Less Features
  • Fit & Finish Not As Good As Competition

Verdict

Unlike the usual MMC or minor model change, this one is just an update. On the whole, the Honda Jazz remains a credible and convenient car, which offers a good alternative to the rest of the premium hatch crop. The WR-V has certainly been a runaway success for Honda and the Jazz has perhaps felt a bit ignored! But its petrol CVT option remains a good choice too - considering the WR-V does not offer automatic.
