For those looking at a hardcore off-road motorcycle, India Kawasaki Motor retails the KX100 off-roader in the country. The motocross motorcycle is the smallest offering in the manufacturer’s KX range of competitive off-road bikes in India and is targeted at a niche of young amateur and professional racers that are looking at an entry-level machine. The Kawasaki KX100 gets minimal bodywork to keep the overall weight light, while the ergonomics are designed to offer comfort to the rider while tackling a tricky terrain or making high jumps.
The bike gets an adjustable handlebar that allows riders to custom-fit their riding position from six adjustment options. The seat height is adjustable too and can be increased up to 10 mm, while the handlebar clamps can be moved forward or rearward to better suit the rider.
Power on the Kawasaki KX100 comes from 99 cc liquid-cooled, carburetted two-stroke, single-cylinder engine that has been optimised for high power and torque delivery across the rev range. The motor is paired with a 6-speed gearbox and offers an incredible power-to-weight ratio with a kerb weight of just 77 kg. The suspension set-up includes impressive components including the 36 mm inverted forks up front and a 20-way adjustable for compression monoshock unit at the rear with a 21-way rebound and preload adjustment. Both units have a travel of 275 mm. Braking performance comes from a single 220 mm disc up front and a single 184 mm disc at the rear.
The Kawasaki KX100 comes to India as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) and attracts hefty customs, as a result. The KX100 is priced at Rs. 4.87 lakh (ex-showroom) In India but is not road legal. The off-road motorcycle then can be ridden on private properties or an off-road circuit and does not need to be registered with the local RTO, thereby saving plenty in registration charges. The bike does not have a direct rival in the segment at present in India.
