The new Mercedes-AMG E 53 4Matic Plus has been brought to our shores as part of the German brand’s plan to launch 15 new models in our market this year. Essentially, it’s the performance versions of the E-Class family and are based of the facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class standard wheelbase that’s on sale in global markets, while India gets the executive luxury sedan only in the long wheelbase (LWB) version.

Exterior

Now quite evidently, the shorter wheelbase and other sporty elements in its design give the AMG a sportier demeanour and that starts with the signature AMG panamericana grille upfront. A sporty bumper featuring large intakes and glossy black elements, E-Class sourced sleek LED taillights at the rear and a quad exhaust system, with a glossy black diffuser are things you’ll see on this new AMG. It also comes with a contrast lip spoiler and a set of 19-inch alloy wheels with option of upgrading to a set of 20-inchers. Obviously, you do get LED headlights along with daytime running lights (DRLs) as well.

Interior and Features

In terms of features, it comes with Mercedes' signature single unit display featuring two digital touchscreens for infotainment and instrumentation. The long feature list also includes the MBUX system, AMG-style flat-bottom multi-functional steering wheel, 64 ambient lighting and ventilated seats among others. Carbon fibre has been used generously on the dashboard and centre console to complement its sporty character, and contrast stitching on the steering wheel and seats further accentuates it. , the AMG E 53 comes with black ARTICO man-made leather/DINAMICA microfibre with an AMG design, red contrasting top-stitching and an AMG badge.

Engine

The Mercedes-AMG E 53 4Matic Plus will be powered by a 3.0-litre six-cylinder in-line engine that comes paired with an EQ Boost starter-alternator. It's the same engine that currently powers the AMG GLE 53, and is tuned to offer the same 435 bhp and 520 Nm of peak torque. Its EQ Boost starter-alternator briefly provides an additional 21 bhp and 250 Nm of torque and also feeds the 48 V onboard electrical system. The engine comes mated to an AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT 9G transmission and the fully variable all-wheel-drive system AMG Performance 4MATIC Plus.
