C&B Verdict On 850 GS
The BMW 850 GS has a comfortable and capable suspension to do countless miles on any kind of surface and terrain. It is the best off-roader of the three, considering its agility advantage over the GS Adventure, and it's just about big and loud enough to give you the feeling that you are indeed riding a big bike. Its pricing also undercuts many of its direct rivals, which is why it makes for a strong contender for anyone looking for a middleweight adventure bike.

About BMW 850 GS
Along with the 2022 BMW F 900 XR, BMW Motorrad has also launched the updated 2022 F 850 GS and F 850 GS Adventure in India. Both the motorcycles get the same 853 cc in-line two-cylinder engine which is now BS6 compliant. In the previous model, though the engine made 94 bhp and 92 Nm in international markets, it was slightly de-tuned to output 89 bhp and 86 Nm in India, owing to our fuel quality of the time. However, the freshly launched BS6 unit matches the international model, and puts out 94 bhp (70 kW) at a slightly higher 8,250 rpm. The torque figures have also gone up to international figures, delivering 92 Nm at 6,250 rpm.
BMW F 850 GS is BMW Motorrad's off-road biased middle weight adventure tourer motorcycle, with the F 750 GS being the road biased model. The ADV will be brought to India via the CBU route, and will be launched in only one variant, the 'Pro' profile with the Style Rallye Package, equipped with the Racing Blue Metallic livery. The bike gets updated features like ABS Pro, Dynamic Traction Control, Dynamic electronic suspension (ESA), Keyless Ride, Gear Shift Assist Pro, Riding Modes Pro, Heated Grips and Cruise Control as standard, and is priced at Rs. 12.50 lakh ex-showroom. The bike weighs 233 kgs, and gets a smaller fuel fuel tank than its Adventure sibling with a capacity of 15 litres. This reduced weight and size makes the bike feel more compact, but comes at the cost of range.
The BMW F 850 GS Adventure, or the F 850 GSA for short, is the more touring friendly motorcycle of the duo. The motorcycle retains all of F 850 GS' off-road abilities, while offering additional equipment like a TFT screen with BMW Motorrad Connect as standard. The F 850 GSA will also be offered only in the 'Pro' guise, with the Style Rallye or the Style Triple Black Package. The Style Rallye comes in a Kalamata Metallic Matt paint scheme, which has gold and red highlights and also gold coloured USD forks, while the Triple Black is offered in a Black Storm Metallic paint scheme.
This bike will also get all of the enhanced features offered on the GS, while getting a larger 23 litre fuel tank, engine guard, wider wind screen, and a different seat as standard. At 875 mm, the seat height is 15mm taller than on the F 850 GS, and the wider body will mean that the bike might be a bit more difficult for shorter riders to get used to than the F 850 GS. The additions also make the bike heavier, and it sits just shy of a quarter of a tonne, as the fully fuelled bike weighs 248 kgs. Priced at Rs. 13.25 lakh ex-showroom, the BS6 guise is cheaper than the older model when it was launched in India in 2019, and offers more kit as standard, making it a better deal.
