Maruti Suzuki Ignis car&bike Expert Take
In this Maruti Suzuki Ignis expert review, the car is best suited to urban buyers looking for a compact, easy-to-drive hatchback with distinctive styling and good visibility. It is not ideal for those seeking rear seat space or a soft ride quality, but its standout strength is how it combines compact dimensions with everyday usability and a unique design. As Shams Raza Naqvi notes, “The Ignis is a car that thrives in the chaos of Indian cities while offering the highway manners of a much larger vehicle.”

Shams Raza Naqvi brings over 16 years of experience in the Indian automobile industry, having tested over 500 cars and clocked more than 300,000 kilometres across diverse Indian terrains. For this review, we put the Maruti Suzuki Ignis through a rigorous 500 kilometres test loop. Our journey began in the congested lanes of Old Delhi, moved through the high-speed corridors of the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway, and concluded with a weekend run to the foothills of Uttarakhand. This varied route allowed us to test the AMT gearbox in bumper-to-bumper traffic and the manual transmission on characterised mountain roads, providing a perspective on its performance and ride quality. This mix of conditions helped evaluate how the Ignis performs as an everyday urban car with occasional highway use.

Pros
- Refined petrol engine
- Excellent visibility and high seating
- Compact dimensions for city parking
- High ground clearance for India
Cons
- Firm ride over sharp bumps
- Limited rear seat shoulder room
- No six-airbag option available
- Polarising rear-end design language
Verdict
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis stands out by offering a compact, easy-to-drive urban package with distinctive styling and strong everyday usability. It doesn't try to be a miniature SUV or a scaled-down hatchback; it is proudly an Ignis. As we have seen in this Maruti Suzuki Ignis expert review, it has done well in those aspects that matter most to the Indian city dweller: engine smoothness, ease of handling, and fuel efficiency. It is the smartest choice for anyone who wants a premium city car that doesn't feel like a compromise.
