After a hiatus of over two and a half years, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 makes a grand return to the Indian market. Known for its role as a budget-friendly hatchback, the Alto K10 has been a pivotal player in Maruti's portfolio, and with over 43 lakh units sold in India, it continues to be a go-to car for first-time buyers and budget-conscious consumers. The latest generation offers a more powerful K10C engine, improved design, and modern features, making it a competitive choice in the entry-level hatchback segment.
2022 Alto K10 adopts a brand-new design that is a significant departure from its previous generation. Gone is the boxy shape, replaced by a more curvaceous body that resembles the Maruti Suzuki Celerio.
| Design Element | Details |
|---|---|
| Front Fascia | New honeycomb pattern grille with an all-black look, paired with large, round headlamps |
| Side Profile | Curvier and more modern, with 13-inch wheels standard on all variants |
| Rear Styling | Sleek rear combination taillamps and a clean design, enhancing the overall look |
| Color Options | 6 colors, including new shades like Sizzling Red, Earth Gold, and Speedy Blue |
| Dimensions | Length: 3530 mm, Width: 1490 mm, Height: 1520 mm, Wheelbase: 2380 mm |
The Alto K10 is larger and more stylish than the Alto 800, with an improved stance and refined design elements. The new honeycomb grille and attractive headlamps bring a modern touch, but the lack of DRLs is a notable miss. The black ORVMs on higher trims could have benefitted from body-colored treatment for a more premium look.

Pros
- Alto K10 is powered by a new 998 cc K10C engine, offering 66 bhp and 89 Nm of torque, which delivers peppy performance for city driving.
- It boasts excellent fuel efficiency, with a claimed mileage of 24.90 kmpl for the AGS variant, making it one of the most economical cars in its segment.
- Updated design, with a honeycomb grille and a more modern look, along with a 7-inch SmartPlay Studio infotainment system with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, enhances the overall appeal.
Cons
- The suspension feels a bit stiff at higher speeds, and you can feel bumps and undulations more prominently on rough roads.
- Basic features like power windows, power steering, and air conditioning are missing in the lower trims, making them feel under-equipped.
- With a ground clearance of just 134 mm, you need to be careful when driving over larger speed bumps or rough terrain, which can limit its usability in certain conditions.
Verdict
2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 is a significant improvement over its predecessor, offering better design, tech features, and fuel efficiency. While some of the lower variants lack essential features, the higher trims provide good value for money. Its compact size, efficient engine, and affordability make it a solid choice for first-time car buyers or those seeking a reliable budget car for daily commuting.
