car&bike Expert Take

“The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 attracts buyers seeking an urban-centric roadster without giving up the brand's signature thumper character. The 2025 update now comes with a slip and assist clutch and progressive rear suspension that benefits daily usability. Its smooth handling and compact footprint serve both first-time riders and experienced commuters effectively.”

On sale as the most affordable bike in the brand's J-platform, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 has gained mass appeal in India’s 350 cc segment. This one’s particularly intended for the urban environment, as it avoids the traditional heavy builds for a tighter, more roadster-looking design. In April 2025, Royal Enfield updated the motorcycle after listening to user complaints about its ride comfort and heavy clutch action. Now, it has progressive rear suspension springs and a standard slip and assist clutch, which has marginally reduced lever effort in city traffic.

The Hunter 350’s main rivals are the TVS Ronin and the recently launched Yamaha XSR 155. While these bikes are all about high-revving liquid-cooled motors or neo-retro scrambler styling, Royal Enfield chooses to depend on its long-stroke engine architecture. Here, the emphasis remains on low-end torque, relaxed urban handling, and a youthful aesthetic.

Car&bike’s motoring journalist Preetam Bora did an exhaustive ride review of this bike, and he also wrote a piece about its benefits and shortcomings. His opinions have been further sprinkled throughout this article to help you decide whether this is going to be your next crotch rocket.

Since the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 focuses on low-speed tractability over top-end speed, its powertrain has been engineered to reduce gear changes during daily commutes.

Engine & Transmission

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Engine

The motorcycle’s core engine architecture matches that of other J-series models, but it also uses a slightly different state of tune for quicker throttle feedback.

City Riding Experience

The long-stroke motor has excellent bottom-end grunt. Rolling at 30 kmph in third gear is quite easy without the engine knocking, while the new slip and assist clutch is a boon for heavy traffic. Throttle response remains sharp as usual, and the Royal Enfield’s signature exhaust note has that satisfying rumble, but in this machine, it’s not overly loud.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Riding

Highway Riding Experience

Out on open roads, the motorcycle stays stable between 80 kmph and 90 kmph, ensuring there are no difficulties in cruising within this range. Vibrations do not appear at this point, but pushing past 100 kmph exposes the engine's limitations, as wind blast and mild vibrations attack the footpegs and handlebar.

Minimalism and approachability have been kept in mind while designing the Royal Enfield Hunter 350. It’s compact, has no unnecessary bulk, and invites riders who find traditional cruisers scary.

As Pritam puts it,

“It is smaller, more compact, and notably lighter than its siblings, designed specifically to appeal to a broader demographic, including younger riders, beginners, and women.”

Proportions & Stance

The motorcycle looks like a modern roadster. The shortened wheelbase and 17-inch wheels make it appear different to the Classic 350, with its more forward-biased, aggressive profile.

Build Quality & Materials

At this price point, the switchgear quality seems practical, having the rotary-style switches seen on the brand’s premium models. The paint finish on the teardrop fuel tank looks consistent in both single and dual-tone layouts. While some plastic panels on the side covers feel cost-cutting, the bike’s overall structure is durable and rattle-free.

Pritam summarises,

“The build quality shows genuine attention to detail, with a high level of fit and finish.”

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Colours

Across its three variants, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 comes in seven colours.

  • Base Variant: Factory Black.
  • Mid Variant: Rio White, Dapper Grey, Graphite Grey.
  • Top Variant: Tokyo Black, London Red, Rebel Blue.
Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Colours Available

The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Exterior has no fairings, atypical of the brand’s aesthetic; it’s bare and stripped, keeping the engine and chassis components exposed. There is no unnecessary chrome, and all the mechanical parts are blacked out, displaying a sporty, youthful vibe.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Front

Lighting & Front Identity

  • The front profile is dominated by a classic round headlamp. The mid and top variants get a powerful LED unit, vastly improving your night riding now.
  • The indicators are round, and a shortened front fender keeps the face clean and uncluttered.
  • An offset instrument cluster sits at a subtle angle above the headlamp, adding an asymmetrical touch to the cockpit.
2025 Royal Enfield Hunter 350

Side Profile & Rear Section

  • From the side, the sculpted 13-litre fuel tank is the most eye-catching element, with its bold typography and graphics.
  • The exhaust is a stubby, upswept unit which completely exposes the rear wheel, thereby giving it the sporty roadster appeal.
  • At the rear, the motorcycle has a minimalist LED tail lamp with round turn indicators, sitting above a clean, shortened tail section with a slightly arched-down seat.

Practical Integration

The single-piece tuck-and-roll seat prioritises one thing above most: simple ingress and egress. The 790 mm seat height also guarantees that most riders, male or female, can plant both feet flat on the ground, while a built-in USB charging port below the left switchgear exists for charging devices on the

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Sideview

It’s quite clear that the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 has been priced aggressively for younger riders and first-time buyers. As of 2026, the pricing for this bike is based on the hardware equipment provided and the colour themes available. We figured the engine and transmission remains same across all the models; rightly a sensible move from Royal Enfield.

The Base variant is affordable, but it tones down braking efficiency with basic spoke wheels and a drum brake on the rear wheel. The mid and top variants do not compromise, giving alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, dual-channel ABS, and the newly added LED headlamp. Between the mid and top variants, the pricing is mostly based on available paint schemes and Tripper navigation compatibility.

VariantKey Hardware AdditionsEx-Showroom Price (Approx.)
Base (Factory Series)Spoke wheels, rear drum brake, single-channel ABSRs. 149900
Mid (Dapper Series)Alloy wheels, rear disc brake, dual-channel ABS, LED headlampRs. 162292
Top (Rebel Series)Premium dual-tone colours, Tripper Navigation compatibilityRs. 166883

Note: The bike’s on-road prices are different according to state taxes and dealer levies.

Since it is comparatively lighter than its heavier siblings, weighing at 181 kg, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350’s mileage is undoubtedly better. Even though it’s a 349 cc engine, fuel consumption remains low as long as the rider does not rev the gears too much and sticks to the bike’s strong low-end torque.

Pritam notes,

“While it can reach 115 kmph, the sweet spot lies between 70 kmph and 80 kmph for a relaxed cruising experience.”

During heavy traffic and brief highway sprints, we found it offers acceptable fuel economy figures for this displacement class. Bring its 13-litre fuel tank into the discussion, and it will give you easily 400 kilometres before a refill.

Riding ConditionClaimed / Observed Mileage
ARAI Certified36.2 kmpl
Real-World City30 - 35 kmpl
Real-World Highway36 - 40 kmpl

In our rides, the bike was most efficient between 60 kmph and 80 kmph in fifth gear. But it significantly gets hungrier when you keep engaging the throttle in city traffic, leaving you with around 30 kmpl mileage. To ensure that the fuel consumption remains optimal, timely chain lubrication and tyre pressure maintenance are necessary here.

The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 has no overly complex digital suite; it only focuses on essential rider aids. Modern functionality is minimal, but practical, helping with daily commuting without abandoning that classic roadster charm.

Instrumentation & Connectivity

The motorcycle has a digital-analogue instrument cluster that contains all vital information.

  • The analogue speedometer comes with a small digital screen showing the odometer, trip meter, gear indicator, and fuel gauge as well.
  • Riders can choose the Tripper Navigation pod as an accessory that allows the bike to connect to Bluetooth to provide turn-by-turn directions.

One thing that gained some bad taste in the biker community is how Royal Enfield removed the gear shift indicator from the instrument cluster. This is visible across all its 350 cc models now, most probably a cost-cutting move from the company.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Seat

Practical Technology & Storage Integration

The technology, meanwhile, is highly functional and mostly geared towards urban riding.

  • There is a USB charging port below the switchgear to charge devices while on the move.
  • The rotary-style switch cubes on the higher variants retain tactile functionality, but also add a retro touch.

Safety Technology

Safety is where the bike has been compromised most across its variants.

  • The top-tier models have dual-channel ABS, allowing you to brake instantly for sudden stopping.
  • But the base model gets a single-channel ABS setup, and worse, a rear drum brake. Of course, this is more than enough for city rides, but when you have to pull the bike down from 100 to zero, it inspires less confidence.

Due to its compact geometry and accessible kerb weight, the motorcycle is the lightest one from the brand’s 350 cc portfolio, thereby giving you exceptional agility on the road.

City Handling

Through dense traffic, this motorcycle excels. The short 1,370 mm wheelbase allows riders to abruptly change directions, while the recently added light-action slip and assist clutch reduces lever effort significantly during traffic crawls.

Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Riding

Highway Stability

On the open road, the bike has fairly good composure. It cruises between 80 kmph and 90 kmph without any complaints. However, things start getting a bit ugly past 100 kmph with mild vibrations.

Suspension Behaviour

The suspension setup comprises 41 mm telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers. While the front handles road imperfections well, the rear suspension is relatively firmer. There are no problems handling speed breakers, but you will feel the impact of potholes.

Rider & Pillion Comfort

  • The 800 mm seat height is practical for a lot of riders.
  • The single-piece seat has sufficient cushioning for both rider and passenger
  • The pillion grab rails feel robust, offering extra security for the passenger.

According to Pritam,

“Whether slicing through the bustling streets of Bangkok at night or leaning through corners on a go-kart track, the Hunter 350 feels light on its feet and inspires confidence.”

Picking the right Royal Enfield Hunter 350 depends on your budget. Its lineup is not too diverse, but it makes sure to meet the demands of both budget-conscious buyers and those preferring a more complete modern-retro aesthetic.

Which Royal Enfield Hunter 350 Should You Buy?

  • Retro Factory (Base): If you have a strict budget, this one should be enough. You get the same peppy 349 cc engine, but beware, you will have to also settle for wire-spoke wheels, tube tyres, a rear drum brake, and a simpler halogen lighting setup.
  • Metro Dapper: This is perhaps the most sensible choice for urban commuters. It has alloy wheels, tubeless tyres, and a rear disc brake with dual-channel ABS.
  • Metro Rebel: At this point, now it’s more about style than convenience, with the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 available in the most visually striking paint schemes. It has the same mechanicals and feature list as the Dapper variant, but is available in bold dual-tone colours and stands out the most in city traffic.

The 350 cc is a fiercely contested segment in India, with the Royal Enfield Hunter 350’s competitors offering something different each. The TVS Ronin is one tech-heavy alternative, while the Honda CB350RS is highly refined, proudly showcasing that scrambler aesthetic. We have compiled the key competitors and their offerings in the table below.

Segment Comparison

ModelEngine OutputClaimed MileageEx-Showroom Price

Honda CB 350 RS21.1 bhp / 30 Nm35 kmplRs. 1.97 Lakh
  • Choose the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 for smart city handling and high low-end performance.
  • Choose the TVS Ronin if you want more modern technology, different riding modes, and better fuel efficiency.
  • Choose the Honda CB350RS if superior engine refinement and highway cruising capabilities matter the most to you.
  • Choose the Jawa 42 if you want a liquid-cooled motor above anything else.

Pros

  • Exceptionally nimble handling around tight city corners
  • Capable 349 cc engine tuned for city speeds
  • Accessible 800 mm seat height
  • Aggressive entry-level prices

Cons

  • Suspension setup is a bit firm over sharp bumps
  • Lacks the top-end punch required for fast highway runs
  • Halogen headlamp in base variants feels outdated

Verdict

The Royal Enfield Hunter 350 is a unique machine from the brand; it breaks away from their historical tradition of heavy, slow-handling cruisers. This one’s quite approachable, fun, and built to conquer the urban jungle instead. Its 349 cc J-series engine feels peppy at lower speeds, making sure that riders get to enjoy daily commutes without stressing themselves physically at all.

Although we need to be clear that the firm rear suspension and the relatively lack of high-speed highway performance are something that may deter some potential buyers. But they do not overshadow the motorcycle's core strengths in any way, giving you an accessible entry to the brand’s ecosystem. If you’re looking for a stylish, lightweight, and easy-to-ride motorcycle with a classic badge, and it also behaves like a modern street bike, the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 should be a mantlepiece in your garage.

This is what Preetam summarises about the Hunter,

“Light, agile and a hoot to ride! That's how the Hunter's personality can be summed up! As an entry-level motorcycle, the Hunter makes perfect sense.”

The engine on the Hunter 350 is powerful, but the fuel consumption is on the higher side. The ride quality is smooth, and the bike feels sturdy. The clutch and transmission work well, but expect more trips to the fuel station.

The Hunter 350 has a powerful engine, and the ride quality is smooth, but the fuel efficiency isn’t that great. The transmission is smooth, and the suspension is good, but you’ll spend more on fuel compared to other bikes in this category.
