car&bike Expert Take
“The Hero Splendor Plus remains India’s undisputed commuter champion, with its greatest asset being the tried and tested engine. It is an economic champion and offers uncompromised reliability. While it has no modern design flair or advanced features, it gives exactly what its target audience wants: a dependable, low-maintenance daily workhorse.”
The Hero Splendor Plus has been a leader in the Indian commuter motorcycle segment for decades. Hero MotoCorp has continually updated this legendary motorcycle to meet evolving emission norms without losing its utilitarian personality. Positioned as the base pillar for the brand’s volume sales, it sits above the HF Deluxe, attracting budget-conscious buyers, particularly from rural areas.
This review has insights from the bike’s detailed testing by our car&bike team. We also checked out the Hero Splendor+ Xtec 2.0 when it first launched, and motoring journalist Preetam Bora compared its performance and practicality with that of the Bajaj Freedom 125. Additional excerpts are included in this review to help you understand the motorcycle’s functional approach and recent updates.
Regarding updates, we now see the i3S start-stop technology here that massively improves fuel economy. But, at its core, its mechanical underpinnings are traditionally simple. Ultimately, this is a bike that can handle daily travel with ease without being a burden on the owner’s pockets.

Pros
- Legendary, indestructible 97.2cc engine
- Insane real-world fuel economy (65-70+ kmpl)
- Dirt-cheap maintenance and wide availability of spare parts
- Class-leading resale value
Cons
- The base variants feel outdated
- Noticeable engine vibrations above 70 kmph
- Skinny tyres reduce high-speed cornering confidence
- Weak halogen headlight throw on lower trims
Verdict
The Hero Splendor Plus isn't just a motorcycle; it’s an emotion that has quietly powered the daily grind of crores of Indians for over 20 years. It doesn't thrill you with amazing speed or aggressive cornering, but it keeps its value high by simply refusing to break down, running virtually on fumes, and demanding super-low maintenance charges if something does eventually go wrong. Its superpower is this: giving you a sheer, unadulterated and unparalleled peace of mind.
By recently introducing the XTEC variants, Hero has successfully reinvented the package without destroying the bike’s core philosophy. Yes, the base models don’t have that exciting modern flair, or the skinny tyres cannot satisfy your highway runs for utmost stability, but those are factors the Hero Splendor Plus barely focuses on. It targets the college student stretching their pocket money and the delivery partner running after tight deadlines, thereby making it the ultimate champion of the masses. This one has been, and most probably will forever be, the gold standard of practical motoring.
Preetam concludes about the motorcycle,
“The Hero Splendor has consistently been India's highest-selling motorcycle, since it was first introduced in 1994, as part of the erstwhile partnership between Hero and Honda. In fact, the Splendor became so popular that its sales soon surpassed those of its predecessor, the Hero Honda CD100, the original four-stroke 100 cc motorcycle which became India's favourite in the 1980s.”
Splendor Plus Colour Options
Hero Splendor Plus is available in 8 different colors namely INDUSTRIAL DARK GREY, MATT GREY, BLACK AND ACCENT, SPORTS RED BLACK, BLACK RED PURPLE, FORCE SILVER, Black Heavy Grey & BLUE BLACK.

- Affordable hai for people who works on ride4.0I3S Matt Axis Grey(Petrol)Affordable and Great Mileage mujhe Hero Splendor Plus ki fuel efficiency bahut pasand hai. 55-65 kmpl easily de deta hai. - Poor Power for Highway Rides2.0SPECIAL EDITIONS OBD2B(Petrol)The engine performance of Hero Splendor Plus is disappointing on highways. It’s underpowered, and the bike struggles at higher speeds. While the mileage is great, it’s not ideal for long-distance or highway rides.By SakmunderPosted on: Oct 03, 2024 12:02 PM00
- Great for City but Not for Highways also Lightweight and Efficient but Lacks Modern Features3.0Drum Brake OBD2B(Petrol)The bike is lightweight and offers great fuel efficiency, but it lacks some modern features. The tripmeter and fuel gauge are basic, and I miss having a low oil indicator. It’s a good bike for daily commutes but could use some updates. Hero Splendor Plus is perfect for city use, offering excellent mileage of around 70 kmpl. However, the engine power feels weak on highways. The bike is light and easy to handle, but it’s not ideal for long-distance rides."By Sunny HotaPosted on: Oct 01, 2024 12:23 PM00
- Good Mileage but Lacks Power4.0Drum Brake OBD2B(Petrol)The mileage of Hero Splendor Plus is impressive, giving around 70 kmpl. However, I feel the engine performance is a bit underpowered for highway rides.
