Bajaj Pulsar N125 vs Rivals: Specifications Comparison

24 Oct 2024
  • What's New?

Bajaj has expanded its popular Pulsar range with the launch of the Pulsar N125 in the Indian market, priced at an attractive Rs 94,707 for the base LED Disc variant and Rs 98,707 for the LED Disc BT variant. Positioned in the highly competitive 125cc commuter segment, the Pulsar N125 takes on strong rivals like the TVS Raider 125, Honda SP125, and Hero Xtreme 125 R. With its sleek design, robust powertrain, and modern features, the Pulsar N125 is set to capture the attention of urban commuters and young riders alike.

    Design and Style

The Pulsar N125 stands out with its bold and sporty styling, which differentiates it from the rest of the Pulsar N series. The motorcycle features a newly designed LED headlamp with a downward-sloping aesthetic, giving it a sharp and aggressive front-end look. The muscular fuel tank with extended tank covers adds a sense of bulk and presence to the bike, while the split-seat configuration ensures rider comfort on longer commutes. The alloy wheels, which are borrowed from the now-discontinued Pulsar P150, further enhance its sporty appeal. Towards the rear, Bajaj has opted for a single-piece grab rail, setting it apart from other Pulsar models that feature split grab rails. With seven distinct color options, the Pulsar N125 offers plenty of choices for riders to express their style.

    Features

The Pulsar N125 is offered in two variants, each catering to different levels of functionality and affordability. The base LED Disc variant comes with a small LCD display, providing essential information such as speed, fuel levels, and trip data. Meanwhile, the LED Disc BT variant adds an extra layer of tech with its monochrome LCD display that supports Bluetooth connectivity, allowing riders to sync their smartphones for call and message alerts, among other features. Both variants come with LED lighting, enhancing visibility and safety on the road.

    Engine and Performance

Powering the Bajaj Pulsar N125 is a reworked version of the 125cc engine found in the NS125. This engine produces 11.8 bhp of power and 11 Nm of torque, making it a reliable and efficient option for daily commuting. Interestingly, the torque delivery in the N125 is tuned to peak at 6000 rpm, making it more responsive at lower speeds, which is ideal for navigating city traffic. This engine is mated to a five-speed gearbox, ensuring smooth gear transitions and better control over the power delivery.

    Suspension and Brakes

The Pulsar N125 is equipped with a telescopic front fork and a rear monoshock suspension setup, providing a balanced and comfortable ride. This setup is designed to handle the rigors of city roads, ensuring stability over potholes and rough surfaces. When it comes to braking, the motorcycle comes with a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear, ensuring reliable stopping power. The LED Disc BT variant, however, gets a slight upgrade with wider, lower profile tyres (110/80-17) compared to the base model’s 100/90-17 tyres, enhancing grip and road handling.

    Competitors

The Bajaj Pulsar N125 faces stiff competition in the Indian market from models such as the TVS Raider 125, Honda SP125, and Hero Xtreme 125 R. Each of these models offers a combination of stylish design, advanced features, and efficient performance in the same price bracket, making the 125cc commuter segment a hotly contested one.

    Conclusion

With its striking design, reliable 125cc engine, and modern features, the Bajaj Pulsar N125 is a well-rounded offering in the commuter motorcycle segment. The motorcycle is competitively priced and provides a good mix of style, performance, and practicality for daily commuters. Whether you are looking for a tech-savvy option with Bluetooth connectivity or a value-for-money base model, the Pulsar N125 has something for everyone. This latest addition from Bajaj promises to cater to the needs of young riders seeking a stylish and efficient ride for their everyday journeys.

car&bike Expert Take

“The Bajaj Pulsar N125 comes across as a well-rounded addition to the 125 cc segment. It is a light, easy-to-ride commuter with a smooth engine and confident handling. It suits riders looking for a sporty yet practical daily bike. However, the lack of ABS and slightly firm ride may not appeal to those prioritising comfort and safety features.”

Bajaj Pulsar N125 Overview

The Bajaj Pulsar N125 enters a highly competitive 125 cc segment that has steadily grown in appeal, especially with the shift towards sportier commuter motorcycles. Positioned as an all-new model built from the ground up, it sits alongside the Pulsar 125 and NS125, but takes a more modern and performance-oriented approach in terms of design and dynamics.

Bajaj has clearly aimed this motorcycle at rivals like the TVS Raider 125 and Hero Xtreme 125R, both of which have set strong benchmarks in this category. With its sharp styling, lightweight construction and practical feature set, the N125 provides both everyday usability and a sporty riding experience.

After riding the Pulsar N125 across city roads, highways and tight corners, we found that it focuses on being easy to ride, light on its feet and comfortable for daily use. Preetam Bora spent time evaluating the motorcycle in different conditions, and his observations from the review in our detailed YouTube video have been incorporated throughout this evaluation.

City Riding Experience

In city traffic, we found that the Pulsar N125 feels light and easy to manage. The throttle response is smooth and the 124.58 cc engine remains tractable at low speeds. It can run at approximately 20 kmph in higher gears without hesitation, which makes daily commuting easy. The light clutch and smooth gear shifts make stop-and-go riding effortless.

Highway Riding Experience

On the highway, we found that the Pulsar N125 is more suited for steady cruising. It remains comfortable at around 80 to 85 kmph and feels stable at these speeds. As speeds approach 100 kmph, acceleration starts to taper off and the engine feels strained. During our evaluation, we found that it is not built for high-speed riding, but it manages occasional highway runs well.

Preetam noted,

“Even though it’s a commuter, it handles corners very well and feels stable when ridden enthusiastically.”

Pros

  • Lightweight and easy to handle in daily riding
  • Smooth and refined engine performance
  • Stable and confidence-inspiring handling
  • Comfortable suspension for rough roads
  • Strong value for money

Cons

  • The front brake lacks a sharp initial bite
  • No ABS reduces braking confidence
  • Fit and finish could be better
  • Misses out on some useful features

Verdict

The Bajaj Pulsar N125 positions itself as a sporty yet practical 125cc motorcycle, focusing on ease of use and everyday usability without losing its sharp visual appeal. It does not strive to be the most aggressive or feature-packed option, but instead delivers a mix of light handling, smooth performance, and practical features that suit daily riding.

In our evaluation, what stood out more than the numbers was how easy the bike felt to ride. It’s light, predictable, and comfortable enough for daily commutes, while still feeling stable when ridden a bit enthusiastically. We found it to be a sensible choice for riders who want something slightly sporty without compromising on day-to-day ease. That said, the braking could have offered more confidence, and the lack of ABS is something you do notice.

As Preetam Bora concludes,

“It strikes a good balance between sporty design, handling, and everyday usability.”
