New Hero Xtreme 125R Launched: Gets Dual-Channel ABS, Cruise Control

8 Nov 2025

Hero Xtreme 125R Single-Seat Variant Launched At Rs 1 Lakh

21 Aug 2025
  • What's New ?

    Introduction

    • Hero updated the Xtreme 125R with a new dual-channel ABS variant in November 2025.
    • It made it the most expensive variant of the 125cc sporty commuter above Rs. 1 lakh.
    • However, the automaker continues to offer it in a single-channel ABS setup as well, which is, on the other hand, priced lesser than a lakh.
    • Nonetheless, even if the dual-channel ABS variant demands a premium of Rs. 12,000, it adds a better and commendable safety net.
    • It's a good package for beginners and youth looking for an attractive motorcycle.
    • The Hero Xtreme 125R with dual-channel ABS now has an edge over its rivals like the Honda CB 125 Hornet and the TVS Raider.

car&bike Expert Take

“Sitting comfortably in the 125 cc commuter segment, the Hero Xtreme 125R gives buyers big-bike technology along with an aggressive visual footprint. It packs some serious premium hardware, such as 37 mm Showa forks and an optional dual-channel ABS setup.”

The Hero Xtreme 125R is considered a decisive step by Hero MotoCorp to maintain the company’s popular run in the sporty commuter segment. Interestingly, traditional 125 cc motorcycles prioritise utility and economy the most, but Hero’s offering challenges these norms with segment-first technology and a design that’s as fresh as it is aggressive. It’s built on a lightweight diamond frame and comes with advanced suspension components developed with Showa.

Hero Xtreme 125R

This motorcycle's initial acceleration is reliably quick. With recent updates, it became even better because of newly added features like cruise control, ride-by-wire throttle, and a vibrant LCD instrument cluster. Positioned to compete against the TVS Raider 125 and the Bajaj Pulsar NS125, the bike offers low running costs besides its attractive road presence and exciting riding dynamics.

Kingshuk Dutta checked out the bike’s performance in real-world conditions, while car&bike’s Assistant Editor Janak Sorap gauged its limits at Hero’s test track in Jaipur. We have shared their insights in this review as well to present our consensus about this motorcycle.

The Hero Xtreme 125R has a refined 124.7 cc air-cooled engine running atop the Engine Balancer Technology, a setup that reduces vibrations and delivers smooth power across the entire rev range. The engine churns out 11.4 bhp and 10.5 Nm of torque, and it can easily handle daily commutes.

The motor has a five-speed manual gearbox as its companion, and Hero has tuned the bike’s gear ratios mostly for strong low-end and mid-range punch. You will notice how responsive the throttle is, letting you effortlessly cut through crowded streets. Hero’s proprietary i3S idle stop-start system sits comfortably in this system too, operating without any hiccups, cutting off the engine at traffic stops to save fuel.

According to Kingshuk,

“It’s remarkably refined. Even at high RPMs, vibrations are minimal.”

City Riding Experience

Hero’s bike excels in urban environments, thanks to the remarkably light clutch that reduces wrist fatigue during long rush hour commutes. The engine also gives sufficient grunt at lower RPMs, meaning you do not have to engage the gearbox too often to keep the bike going at lower speeds. City riding is comfortable for two main reasons: the bike’s light handling and its upright riding posture.

Hero Xtreme 125R Performance

Highway Riding Experience

Even on the highway, the motorcycle performs well at a steady cruise of 70-80 kmph. Users have often reported its convenience over stretches as long as 250 km+ trips. However, since it’s a 125 cc bike, overtaking at triple-digit speeds does require some patience. Now this is expected because, for overtaking, we always recommend going for higher-displacement bikes instead.

The Hero Xtreme 125R’s design resonates with larger streetfighters. The manufacturer has avoided conservative commuter styling and has chosen a bold, chiselled fuel tank for the bike, along with sharp extensions. It appears quite heavy from the front, standing with an aggressive silhouette that turns heads under traffic lights to look at least once.

Janak observes,

“The Xtreme 125R leans heavily into its sporty DNA.”

The motorcycle has a seat height of 794 mm that accommodates riders of different heights, while the wide handlebar gives proper leverage over the front end. But, even though it looks aggressive, the bike is not actually that challenging to ride because of its casual sitting stance.

Proportions & Stance

The Hero Xtreme 125R is relatively shorter than the TVS Raider and the Bajaj Pulsar NS125, and also narrower.

Build Quality & Materials

Hero has noticeably upped the bike’s fit and finish levels in the recent 2026 update. The tank and tail section’s plastic panels are now sturdier than before, while the switchgear returns a reassuring click. The bike’s paint, meanwhile, is deep and glossy.

Kingshuk, however, says this about the bike’s paint,

“While the fit and finish are on par for the segment, the paint quality could be a bit more premium to match its high-end styling.”

Hero Xtreme 125R Colours

Hero Xtreme 125R Colours

There are some striking paint schemes available for this motorcycle.

  • Cobalt Blue
  • Firestorm Red
  • Stallion Black
  • Black Pearl Red (On select newer variants)
  • Black Matshdow Grey (On select newer variants)

We generally consider premium elements rare in the 125 cc category, but the Hero Xtreme 125R surprised us. It has stylish 17-inch alloy wheels with a 120/80 section rear tyre that magnifies the visual footprint and grip. The compact muffler is sporty by design and has a distinct exhaust note, heightening the bike’s overall dynamic appeal.

The hardware given here is no slouch, either. The 37 mm telescopic front forks are the thickest this segment can give you, while there is also a rear tyre hugger and a cleanly integrated engine cowl. Hero managed to package these elements into its streetfighter neatly, making sure the motorcycle turns heads from every angle.

Hero Xtreme 125 R 14

Lighting & Front Identity

  • It has a first-in-segment full LED projector headlamp with great nighttime illumination.
  • There are beautiful LED daytime running lights to decorate the bike’s front profile.
  • There are also LED turn indicators in the modern lighting package.

Side Profile & Rear Section

  • The diamond frame stays exposed, and the underbelly exhaust is neatly sculpted.
  • The bike gets split grab rails too for the pillion rider’s convenience, although the pillion seat is quite high.
  • The rear tyre gets a hugger, a very necessary and practical addition for Indian roads during monsoons.
Hero Xtreme 125 R 7

Practical Integration

Despite its sporty profile, we found some sensible, everyday-use features in this motorcycle. The mirrors, for instance, have a wide field of view, and the hazard light switch helps tremendously during poor visibility conditions. As for the bike’s ground clearance, 180 mm is enough to breeze past tall speed breakers without scraping the underbelly.

Pros

  • Superior dual-channel ABS and ride modes
  • Fuel-efficient 124.7 cc engine returning 60 kmpl
  • Showa rear mono-shock suspension
  • Bright full-LED lighting setup

Cons

  • Pillion seat is cramped on split-seat models
  • The engine feels stressed above 90 kmph
  • Lacks a sixth gear for highway cruising
  • Base variants miss out on advanced tech

Verdict

Operating both as a sensible daily commuter and a reliable streetfighter, Hero MotoCorp has successfully built a motorcycle that looks aggressive, but stays rider-friendly for urban environments. The Hero Xtreme 125R’s Sprint-EBT engine is smooth, fuel-efficient, and torquey enough in the lower range to manage your city escapades throughout the year. What truly sets the motorcycle apart is the focus Hero has given to its safety and technology. You get features like dual-channel ABS, ride-by-wire, cruise control, and most importantly, getting all of these features combined at this price bracket is very, very rare.

While it may not be the fastest machine in this segment, it offers composed suspension and nimble handling, making sure your city riding experience is not hampered. Overall, if you want a reliable, tech-loaded 125 cc motorcycle, and one whose visual profile clearly is meant to excite the younger generation, put the Hero Xtreme 125R at the top of your browsing list.

Janak concludes,

“On initial impressions, it has the credentials: the grunt, the handling, and looks to be a serious contender. The build quality is premium, the paint is high-quality, and the bike feels like a significant step up for Hero in the 125 cc space.”
