Jeep Grand Cherokee

The iconic American brand, Jeep made its foray in Indian market in August, 2016 with the launch of one of its most loved SUVs, ‘Grand Cherokee’. The model is available in three variants-Grand Cherokee Limited, Grand Cherokee Summit and the more powerful performance trim, Grand Cherokee SRT.  The Limited and Summit variants derive power from the 3.0 litre, V6 EcoDiesel engine as opposed to the SRT trim that comes equipped with the high capacity 6.4 litre, V8 engine putting out massive power and torque. Both the engines are linked to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and drive is sent to all four wheels through a 4WD system. 

Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior 

Measuring 4,828mm long, 1,943mm wide and 1,802mm high, Grand Cherokee is a muscular SUV with an aggressive front profile featuring multiple slat chrome grille, split headlamps, small fog lamps with chrome surrounds, air dams with mesh grille backdrop and thick chrome surround. The body cladding is in line with the rugged SUV-ish semblance. Square wheel arches with fat tyres underneath and supportive character lines on side add to the robust appearance. Jeep has given equal prominence to the rear end with a large spoiler sitting on the top, LED wrap around tail lamps, dual tailpipes and large bumper with a thick chrome garnish adorning the rear profile. 

Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior 

With a capacity to seat five adults, Grand Cherokee, interior gets two row seating layout offering comfortable space to occupants. The chrome work done on the dual tone dashboard is a bit over the top. Chunky dials and three-spoke steering wheel look a tad dated. Seats are covered with premium leather upholstery and there are multiple storage points inside like bottle holders, door bins, glove-box etc. Centre console gets a large touch-screen and a number of buttons for controlling multiple gizmos offered inside. Use of other elements like open pore wood, premium leather and detailed stitching are some of the key elements that make the cabin more upmarket. 

Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine Specifications & Transmission

Armed by the 3.0 litre, V6 diesel engine, the Limited and Summit variants offer maximum power of 240bhp and 570Nm. The high-performance, SRT variant houses the 6.4 litre, V8 engine putting out abundant power of 468bhp and top torque of 630Nm. Both the engines are paired to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that comes with paddle shifters and power is channelized to all four wheels via an all-wheel drive system. 

Jeep Grand Cherokee Performance & Mileage

The 3.0 litre engine is claimed to return ARAI certified fuel economy of 12.8km/l under standard conditions.

Infotainment features aboard include a Harman Kardon audio system with speakers and subwoofers on the range topping variant. A 8.4 inch touchscreen display, 825-watt amplifier, 7-inch LCD instrument cluster with tachometer, dual USB port for charging, GPS navigation, integrated voice command, remote SD card slot, Ucconect voice command with Bluetooth, rear seat dual screen blueray & DVD player and SRT high performance Audio. 

Jeep Grand Cherokee Braking & Handling

The ready alert braking feature is standard across line-up and regular variants get anti-lock 4-wheel disc brakes. The high-performance SRT variant on the other hand features brembo high performance anti-lock-brakes.

Jeep has armed Grand Cherokee with plethora safety and security equipment such as 3-point centre rear seat belt, 4-wheel traction control, active head restraints, advanced multistage front airbags, cargo compartment cover, child seat upper thether anchorages and cruise control. A bunch of other primary features available on the SUV includes driver inflatable knee-bolster airbag, electronic rear limited-slip differential, hill descent control, hill start assist keyless entry, LATCH ready child seat anchor system, park-sense park assist system in front and rear, Parkview rear back up camera, rain brake support, ready alert braking, remote keyless entry & proximity keyless entry, sentry key theft deterrent system, supplemental front seat mounted side bags and side curtain airbags and trailer sway damping. 

Jeep Grand Cherokee Comfort and Convenience

 External comfort features offered on the SUV are dual-pane panoramic sunroof, ORVMs with courtesy lamps, memory function, heated function and turn signals. Rain sensitive windshield wipers, rear window wiper/washer and rear window defroster are some of the other external comfort features. Inside the cabin, Jeep has stuffed several comfort goodies such as a 12V auxiliary power outlet in front & rear, active noise control system, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, dual zone automatic temperature control, electronic vehicle information, heated steering wheel, driver’s seat with memory function, power windows in front & rear, steering mounted shift levers & audio controls and a couple of others.

Jeep gets a choice between 18 inch polished alloy wheels, 20 inch polished 5-spoke wheels and 20 inch aluminium wheels. All the variants get a spare wheel and tyre pressure monitoring display.
