It is always a moment when Rolls Royce rolls out something new of its Goodwood plant and the Cullinan is rather special. It's the only SUV in the world which proudly embodies the 'Spirit Of Ecstasy' on its hood and stands testimony to the popularity that SUVs have garnered. It's the pinnacle in SUVs and has been finally launched in India after making its global debut in May this year. We have been lucky enough to hang around with the Cullinan for some time and have observed some elements which set it apart from other SUVs.

Rolls Royce Cullinan, the British luxury automaker's first-ever all-terrain vehicle, has been officially launched in India. Priced at Rs. 6.95 Crore (ex-showroom, India) the new Cullinan is the first all-terrain SUV model from the company.

The Cullinan is not only is it the company's first SUV, ever; but is also based on the newly developed aluminium spaceframe platform that will underpin the next generation Phantom and all models that are introduced further on.

The new Rolls-Royce model which finally takes the luxury brand into the SUV space will be called Cullinan. It is named after the Cullinan Diamond - a 3106 carat stone that was found in a South African mine in 1905. The Cullinan Diamond is one of the largest flawless diamonds ever found. Rolls-Royce had hidden the new model's name in plain sight it would seem - since it had named the entire plan for the SUV Project Cullinan from the start!

Rolls-Royce has revealed the Cullinan SUV prototype ahead of the official launch next year. The Rolls-Royce SUV will be starting its cold-weather testing later this month in the Arctic Circle, while hot-weather testing is set to commence by mid-2017.
