About Nissan Terrano

Nissan India has launched the new 2017 Nissan Terrano facelift priced at Rs 9.99 lakh to Rs 14.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). It's been more than three years since the Terrano was launched in October 2013 and had received only one update, when the Terrano Groove Edition was launched. That said last year the Japanese automaker did launch an automated manual transmission.

Nissan has introduced 22 new features with the 2017 Nissan Terrano facelift, and some much-needed features include - the new 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation and voice recognition. Other features comprise of - electrically operable ORVMs, hill climb assist and cruise control. The interior too has been spruced up with a nice black and brown dual-tone colour scheme along with new fabrics or leather upholstery, depending on the variant. The steering wheel has been redesigned and now gets controls for telephony and audio. Thankfully, Nissan has also provided an armrest for the driver in the 2017 Nissan Terrano. The buttons for power windows are now illuminated and the wing mirrors now get integrated indicators.
Nissan Terrano Sport Edition

Under the hood, the new Terrano SUV continues to get a 1.6 litre petrol engine that makes 103 bhp and 148 Nm of peak torque, while mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a 1.5 diesel engine that comes in two states of tunes. The less powerful one makes 84 bhp and 200 Nm of peak torque and the more powerful one makes 108 bhp and 245 Nm of peak torque. The former gets the 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while the 108 bhp variant comes with the option of either a 6-speed manual or an AMT unit.

Nissan Terrano Exteriors

Exterior design and styling is quite impressive, the front profile gets an aggressive treatment featuring Nissan’s quintessential chrome finished grille with honey-comb backdrop and large headlamps. Lower side of bumper gets large air-dams, skid-plate and round fog lamps. Fat tyres are placed under flared wheel arches and there is a side stepper allowing hassle free ingress and egress. Rear styling is appealing too with captivating tail lamps and large bumper.

Nissan Terrano Interiors

Dual tone dashboard featuring black and beige colour theme looks plush. The flat rectangular centre console gets AC vents, audio system, temperature dials etc. Instrument panel is large and there is a three-spoke steering wheel that lacks mounted controls. Overall the interior design is a tad dated but the cabin is quite comfortable from the perspective of space offering generous space to occupants. There are multiple storage points within cabin and luggage space is lavish too.

Nissan Terrano Engine Specifications & Transmission

Engine set up includes a 1.6 litre, four cylinder unit developing 104PS at 5750rpm and 148Nm at 3750rpm. Diesel variants are powered by a 1.5 litre unit producing power in two different tunes-85PS and 110PS. While the low end variant house 85PS version, the higher variants get 110PS unit. Transmission duties are carried over by five-speed manual gearbox in petrol and 85PS diesel trims and 110PS variants get six-speed tranny.

Nissan Terrano Expert Review

Nissan Terrano

The Nissan Terrano is often considered to be the brand's most recognizable automobile. This vehicle was constructed to be long-lasting and dependable, and it is capable of withstanding the pressures that come with regular operation. In this article, we will investigate how the Nissan Terrano has played a significant role in the development of automotive technology over the course of its history and what legacy it continues to carry in the present day. We will also take a look at some of the features that distinguish this automobile from others on the market and explain why it is still considered to be one of Nissan's best-selling models.

The Nissan Terrano is fundamentally identical to the Renault Duster, albeit presented in a more upscale form. In comparison to the Duster, it has a more mature design and superior interiors, yet maintaining the same rugged construction and user-friendly qualities of its predecessor.

How is the Design?

The length of the Nissan Terrano is 4.33 meters, and its width is 1.83 meters. These are the vehicle's dimensions. It has an overall height of 1.67 meters when including the roof rail that is set in place. The extraordinary height of the vehicle already provides an abundance of interior space, which is further increased by the length of the wheelbase, which measures 2.67 meters. The Nissan Terrano has a ground clearance of 205 millimetres, which is comparable to that of the Renault Duster. However, this advantage is an added bonus that will allow this SUV to travel effortlessly over any terrain. The Nissan Terrano's side profile features angular and aggressive lines, in contrast to the curved lines of the Renault Duster's side profile.

The Nissan Terrano has a more assertive appearance than the majority of Nissan's other models sold in India, thanks to its wheel arches that have been flared outwards. The butch appearance of the automobile is accentuated by two horizontal creases that run the length of the doors; yet, these creases are insufficient to mitigate the organic lines that run the length of the remainder of the car. It is clear that Nissan has produced a new tail lamp cluster without tinkering too much with the Duster lamps because the rear end is not at all like any of the Nissan SUVs. This is evidenced by the fact that the rear end is completely unique. It has roof rails and silver skid plates to give it a rough appearance, and it has a chrome garnish to make it feel more expensive. A set of diamond-cut 16" machined light-weight alloy wheels are affixed to the flared-up wheel arches of this SUV in the high end variations, while the base and the mid variants are furnished with comparable sturdy steel wheels, which unquestionably give the SUV a more aggressive appearance. These elegant rims have been further outfitted with tubeless radial tyres in the 215/65 R16 size, which have excellent traction on the road regardless of the terrain.

How does it perform?

The Diesel model is driven by the same 1.5-liter dCi engine that is found in the Duster, and it is offered in two distinct grades: the base model, which generates 83.8 horsepower, and the more powerful top version, which generates 108.5 horsepower. This K9K diesel engine with 1461 cc displacement and dCi fuel efficiency is pretty potent.

1. What is the Torque Figure?

The maximum torque figure is 200Nm of torque at 1750rpm.

2. What is the Power?

The Nissan Terrano has a maximum power of 83.14bhp@3750rpm.

3. What is the Top Speed?

The Nissan Terrano can achieve a top speed of 175 kmph.

There is also the 1598 cc petrol engine that does a decent job on the road as well. This naturally aspirated engine can make 104 PS of power and 145 Nm of maximum torque. There are both automatic and manual versions available for the SUV.

How’s the Mileage?

In typical driving conditions, the diesel-powered Terrano is said to get a fuel economy of 19.87 km/l, while the petrol-powered models are capable of achieving 13.04 km/l.

How’s the Driving Experience?

Because the engine in the Terrano delivers a generous amount of power and torque, the vehicle is able to tackle curves with relative ease. Because the brakes are so dependable, you won't ever feel like you're losing control of this vehicle when you use them. Because the seats are so comfy, you won't have to worry about being antsy or uneasy even if you have to spend several hours behind the wheel.

In general, the Nissan Terrano is an incredible car that provides outstanding opportunities for fun behind the wheel. If you are searching for a luxurious vehicle that is capable of driving on any type of terrain, then the Terrano should be at the very top of your list of potential options. It takes the diesel engine a whole 12 seconds to reach 100 kilometers per hour, and it has a top speed of 175 kilometers per hour. The gasoline-powered version, on the other hand, can reach a maximum speed of 165 kilometers per hour and can reach 100 kilometers per hour from a complete stop in ten seconds.

Because of the tremendous performance of both engines, the Terrano never has the sensation of being sluggish at any point in time. The gasoline engine has a displacement of 1.6 liters and uses a fuel injection system known as multi-point fuel injection (MPFI). Additionally, it is coupled to a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel models are available with a choice between two power outputs: the lower-output 85PS (83.8bhp) or the higher-output 110PS (108.5bhp). This K9K, 1461cc, dCi diesel engine is quite powerful and ensures stellar performance. A six-speed manual transmission gear box is paired with the diesel engine.

How’s its Off-road Capability?

The Nissan Terrano is a flexible vehicle that may be driven on city roads, as well as off-road terrain. Because of its four-wheel drive system, it can easily navigate rough terrain, making it an ideal vehicle for venturing into uncharted regions. In addition, the vehicle has high ground clearance, which makes it possible to avoid obstacles. The Nissan Terrano is, all things considered, a fantastic option for someone searching for a versatile vehicle that is capable of driving on any terrain.

What’s the Interior like?

The Nissan Terrano's inside is beige-and-black. Lower trims have superior fabric seats, while higher trims have leather. Spacious interiors, a chrome-finished steering wheel, and a sleek metallic gear knob set the cabin apart. Premium models have leather seats and wood door inserts. The base XE diesel has all-black interiors, while the remainder of the line-up has beige-black interiors. The Terrano Petrol has only one variant, the Terrano XL, with ABS-EBD-Brake Assist, driver side airbag, music system, and front fog lamps. Top-end Terranos have 10-spoke petal-shaped alloy wheels, which seem weird on the muscular SUV. The Terrano's interior quality and cabin are exceptional. This music system is more ergonomic and user-friendly. The unintelligible OVRM adjustment under handbrake lever is the only issue. Rest of the equipment is the same, including the one-step driver height adjust and orange instrument cluster lighting.

A rear AC vent improves passenger comfort, but it increases NVH. The Nissan Terrano has soft seats, extensive leg room, and enough head and shoulder space. This luxurious SUV can fit five passengers. The lumbar support and plush seats make the ride enjoyable. All passengers have plenty of front, rear, and elbow room. The opulent interior provides a luxurious driving experience. The top and mid models' center fascias are glossy black, while the rest are matte. Dashboard air vents and a wide, bright instrument cluster are other aspects. The black-and-beige colour palette is elegant. A leather steering wheel, chrome shift knob, and front and rear armrests are also included. The ornamental strip looks great on the beige door trimmings. The new Nissan Terrano has map pockets, seat back pockets, and cup-&-bottle holders in the door and between the front seats, and a rear centre armrest with storage and holders. The Terrano has a two-speed air conditioner for rear passengers. This SUV incorporates parking sensors for tight spaces. The Terrano has reading lights for passengers as well.

Tech and Infotainment

The Terrano provides access to cutting-edge technological features. There is a Rear View Camera, which provides drivers with a clear view of what is behind them while they are driving, and Navigation with Voice Activation, which enables drivers to control navigation without having to take their hands off the wheel. Both of these features are worth mentioning because they enhance the driving experience. Driving is made considerably simpler because of these features. The level of pleasure that can be experienced is amplified by amenities such as Bluetooth connectivity, an integrated 2-Din audio system with CD, MP3, AM, FM, USB Aux-In, and Bluetooth speakers (2 front and 2 rear), and a USB port.

Safety Equipment

A strong and reliable braking system is a highlight of the Nissan Terrano. Disc brakes are standard on the front wheels of the compact SUV, allowing for precise stopping power. The SUV's front suspension is an independent McPherson strut design with coil springs and a sophisticated anti-roll bar; the back suspension is a torsion beam setup with coil springs and a similar anti-roll bar for the back seat passengers' comfort. When used together, these systems guarantee the safety of both the passengers and the SUV itself. The Terrano's top trims feature an advanced Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), electronic brake force distribution technology, brake assist, and a stability control module, all of which work together to improve the SUV's braking performance. In addition to the engine immobilizer, central locking, driver seat belt reminder, doors-not-closed reminder, rear defogger, reverse parking sensor, and heated tailgate glass warning light, the vehicle is equipped with a plethora of additional safety features. It also comes standard with a feature called Blind Zone Warning Plus, which alerts drivers whenever someone approaches them from behind while they are in their blind spot. This enables you to maintain your safety while driving and steer clear of any potential collisions.

Which variant to buy?

The Nissan Terrano is offered in four different versions: the XE, the XL, the XL (O), and the XV Premium. Each version has a different price. Prices start at 10 lakh rupees and go all the way up to 14.65 lakh rupees for the most expensive XV diesel AMT model.

Which Cars Compete in this Segment?

When it comes to competition, Nissan's Terrano goes up against cars like the Renault Duster, Hyundai Creta, and the Maruti Suzuki S-Cross. The interior quality of the Terrano is superior to that of the Renault Duster. However, the Creta has only got better with time and is a power packed and more premium offering today in the Indian market. The Terrano may also compete with some other compact SUVs in the market, although they may not always have engines that are as powerful.

Verdict (Value for Money?)

Nissan's Terrano is always a value pick for buyers. It seems like a major improvement over its French counterpart, the Renault Duster. Prices for the Terrano are higher than they are for the Duster because of an agreement between Renault and Nissan that the donor car will be placed below the new model.

Aesthetics, ergonomics, and interior quality are the Terrano's defining characteristics, setting it apart from the Duster and likely influencing the buyer's decision. This small SUV goes up against models like the Renault Duster and many other compact SUVs. Nissan's classic logo, in use since the 1980s in many parts of the world, is included on every Terrano. Like the Duster, the Terrano is largely aimed towards the developing areas of the world for sales. It's not a just reskinned Renault Duster; it's built on far sturdier foundations. However, it's 100 kg heavier than the Renault Duster, which seems excessive. As unfortunate as it may seem, weight and performance are negatively correlated. The Terrano is attractive and its small dimensions can be useful in many situations. The exterior is stunning and doesn't look like it was built cheaply. The bodywork and hood are painted nicely and are sturdy. While most SUVs have boxy, unrefined designs, the Terrano is luxurious and sophisticated, making it a great choice for those who value comfort above all else. It's a thrilling ride, and its performance is unmatched. This SUV is a steal for the money and has a powerful engine, making it a great value proposition. There's no stopping Cristiano on the football field. The same holds true for the Terrano which is a great performer and should be in every enthusiast’s garage.
