Yamaha FZ S V2.0 FI Expert Review
Introduction
A quick ride with the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 FI says that the new FZ by Yamaha has a wider mass appeal. The Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 FI features a style quotient with premium body graphics and new colours. The rest of its appearance is pretty much the same as the older FZ. It has been quite some time since Yamaha has come out with new variants of FZ, the FZ-S and FZ-S V2.0. Yamaha is undoubtedly the acclaimed pioneer of India’s performance biking but it took the company a while to launch some exciting two-wheelers in the country. The FZ variants are the revamped older version, with something new to offer.
How is the design?
The Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 FI remains the same muscular street-naked, rugged looking macho. With only a few panels cladding the new generation FZ, the V2.0 rides strong on slim-spoke rims, the alloy painted in black and those racy striped impressions running along the circumference. The instruments are broader with better visibility that incorporates a fuel gauge. This version additionally features a set of supple and control levers, top-drawer switches and a good palm grip. The mirrors are adjustable and functional likewise. The tanks are broader, having recesses for better thigh grip and snug knee. This bike exudes a powerful and impressive profile owing to its sporty drive chain and massive tyres. It shows off a nice fit-finish and attention to finer details. This version gets the same premium touch with a hint of robustness.
How is the performance?
The new Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 has an extremely good built-quality propelled by a single cylinder, air-cooled, 149.0 cc engine that can exert a maximum of 13 bhp of power at 800 rpm and a peak torque of 12.8 Nm at 6000 rpm. It has an additional fuel injection which was missing in the older 153 cc. The V2.0 features slick shifting and light-action clutch and a toe-shift lever to control its gear mechanism. Both the variants of FZ kind of feel identical to the previous bikes in terms of performance delivery. Although the exhaust emission is softer, the grunt note of the V2 sounds identical to Yamaha’s old generation bikes. Unfortunately, power has been brought down but the V2.0 still manages to deliver improved smoothness with better throttle response.
How does the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 FI ride?
The new Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 revs faster and smoother than the older FZ variants, without a hint of taper in its power at a mid-range spread. Acceleration remains the same and would make you wonder why Yamaha had to wait this long before introducing fuel injection. The bike has put on some weight but it does feel light. The split-riding saddle of the V 2.0 feels comfortable and broad. The quality of its ride is pretty pleasant, neither overly stiff, nor too soft. It still remains at the top of its kind, in terms of cornering, braking, stability and handling. This version of the FZ does not, however, deliver higher displacement and will leave the loyal riders disappointed for not being given something faster to take on Pulsars or Dukes. The brakes are confidence-inspired, a norm on this new variant with a single disc at the front and a drum at the rear.
How comfortable is the Yamaha FZ-S V2.0 FI?
Only a few bikes in India can match FZ’s well-balanced and comfortable riding posture, with wider handlebars that allow good leverage for a more controlled and quicker turn in. The pillion may not be very comfortable on long hauls. The additional recesses on this version provide better thigh grip and comfortability to the knees. As a result, the rider does not suffer from strained legs after a long journey on this bike. The massive tyres on this version keeps the bike well-planted on the ground and helps it move along the intended line. Upon achieving higher speeds, particularly on highways, this bike does not exhibit any kind of stress. Minimal vibrations are felt at higher speeds, but it also depends on who is riding.
