What's New?
The two-wheeler manufacturer based out of Pune had introduced the new 2017 Bajaj Pulsar 220 in India in December 2016. There were subtle cosmetic upgrades and a BSIV compliant engine that the motorcycle received. Though, the overall profile remains unchanged. Since its launch, the company has added a new Laser Red paint scheme on the Pulsar 220. The 220cc motorcycle now gets new graphics – red colour with new white highlights.
Except for the few updates, the 2017 Bajaj Pulsar 220 shares a strong resemblance with the previous, two-seater model. The bike now gets a new backlit colour for the instrumentation cluster instead of amber to cool blue shade. Other design highlights include a new dual-tone scheme, matte-black finished exhaust with chrome, new rim decals and chrome highlights. The new seats are claimed to offer a comfortable ride for both rider and pillion. Powering the bike is the same 220cc, single-cylinder, 4-stroke, DTS-i engine, which has been calibrated to meet BS4 norms.
Pulsar 220F is an affordable bike for customers in the four-stroke segment with DTS-I, oil-cooled, single-cylinder powertrain. The engine capacity is 220 cc and the engine has power at the top at 20.65 bhp at 8500 rpm and with a peak torque of 18.55 Nm at 7000 rpm. There are telescopic forks in this bike fitted in the front. There is a 5-step adjustable nitrox shock absorber at the rear for good support and balance to the bike while the bike is running on the road. There are 260 mm and 230 mm disc brakes at the front and the back. There is ample sitting comfortably. There is an LED headlamp, sporty split seats, split grab rails, electric start, engine kill switch, and self-cancelling indicator and so on.

The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is a high-performance motorcycle designed for the masses, combining practicality with robust power. Its latest edition adheres to modern emission norms by replacing the carburettor with a fuel-injection system and redesigning the exhaust manifold. The changes ensure it complies with new carbon emission standards without compromising performance.
The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is distinguished by its sports-inspired aerodynamics. The bike's semi-fairing adds to its premium appeal, while the black visor and twin projector headlights on the front provide a distinctive look. The large windshield complements the sharp headlamp design, enhancing the bike's aerodynamic profile.
At the rear, the LED tail light and split grab-rails offer a stylish and modern appearance. The exhaust muffler has been updated with a matte black finish, contributing to the bike’s overall sportiness. The instrument cluster is another highlight, featuring a digital trip meter, fuel gauge, odometer, and speedometer, while the tachometer remains analogue. The bike also comes equipped with a clip-on handlebar, electric start, and an engine-kill switch, all aimed at making the rider’s experience more convenient
Pros
- The 220 cc DTS-i engine delivers 20.8 bhp and 19.12 Nm of torque, ensuring strong performance for both city commutes and highway rides.
- The bike can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in 3.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 144 kmph, making it one of the fastest in its segment.
- Features like a semi-fairing, projector headlamps, and a comfortable seating posture make it ideal for long rides.
Cons
- The design has remained largely unchanged, which may not appeal to those seeking a more modern look.
- While powerful, the 5-speed gearbox might feel limited compared to 6-speed options available in newer bikes.
- The competition in this segment offers more advanced features, potentially making the Pulsar 220F feel dated in comparison
Verdict
The Bajaj Pulsar 220F is a high-performance, value-for-money bike that excels in both city commuting and long-distance touring. While its design and features may feel slightly outdated compared to newer models, its strong engine, comfortable ergonomics, and reliable performance make it an excellent choice for riders seeking a well-rounded and affordable option in the 200-250 cc segment.
