car&bike Expert Take

“The Citroen eC3 is a practical electric hatchback. Although it misses out on some premium features and rapid charging capabilities, its spacious cabin and solid ride quality make up for those shortcomings. The car’s price tag is approachable as well.”

It’s been three years since the Citroen eC3 arrived in the Indian market, fully loaded with French styling and comfort within the affordable EV space. This one follows its petrol-powered sibling's market approach by keeping a high ground clearance and a crossover-like stance, replete with quirky design elements.

Over time, the manufacturer has made some further changes to this car, such as the 2025 variant introducing the accessible Live variant for a wider audience, including fleet operators. It’s upright, urban-centric, and has a balanced ride quality. While rivals lean towards flashy tech to stand out, the eC3 keeps most of the core stuff simple, running on a 29.2 kWh air-cooled battery pack.

Shams Raza Naqvi, Senior Editor at car&bike, had covered this vehicle’s launch, available features, real-world characteristics, and market relevance against some current competitors within the EV segment. To give this review a more authoritative stance, we have taken some of his opinions about the car and added them here.

Pros

  • Comfortable ride quality over broken city roads
  • Practical 315-litre boot with a spare wheel
  • Instant low-end torque for traffic overtakes
  • Bright, responsive 10.2-inch touchscreen display

Cons

  • The air-cooled battery may not suffice in summer
  • Missing basics like automatic climate control
  • Top speed is electronically limited to 107 kmph
  • Handling feels heavy around tight corners

Verdict

The Citroen eC3 knows exactly what it wants to be. It does not chase any lap times, nor does it focus on winning any specification sheet battles. It’s a practical, comfortable, and economically sensible EV for city strolls, as the pliant suspension absorbs the worst of Indian roads with ease.

But, all modern expectations are not honestly met with this vehicle. For a car that costs over Rs. 13 lakh, there is no reason to exclude automatic climate control or tone down on highway performance. Yes, this vehicle is best suited for the city, and at the same time, requires tremendous patience on open stretches. If such shortcomings are still negligible to you, and you care more about the spacious cabin on offer, the Citroen eC3’s fuss-free nature and quiet charging capabilities deserve a spot at your doorstep.

Shams concludes about the car,

“The Citroen eC3 comes across as a reliable city car that offers a good amount of practicality and acceptable drivability. If you're looking for an affordable EV, and your options are currently limited, this could be a good bet.”
