The Hero Karizma XMR marks the return of a legendary name in Indian motorcycling. Launched in August 2023 and priced at ₹1.83 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Karizma XMR is a completely redesigned model, aiming to appeal to a new generation of riders while honoring its iconic legacy. It’s not just a cosmetic update; this version is built from the ground up with a new engine, frame, and design, making it a fresh offering in the 200 cc segment. Given the expectations set by the original Karizma, the XMR is tasked with re-establishing its name in an increasingly competitive market.
The design of the Karizma XMR is undoubtedly sporty and aggressive, reflecting a modern take on the classic Karizma look. It features sharp lines and creases, a muscular fuel tank, and full fairing, giving it a bold and eye-catching appearance. The split-seat design and upswept tail section further emphasize its sporty persona. Although equipped with clip-on handlebars, the riding posture is not too aggressive, making it comfortable for both daily commutes and weekend rides.

The LED headlights and well-placed body graphics enhance the premium feel of the bike, but certain elements, like the inconsistent panel gaps and frame welds, detract from its overall build quality. The bike runs on 17-inch alloy wheels, with tubeless tires, and features a 37 mm telescopic front fork and monoshock rear suspension. Overall, the Karizma XMR has an attractive and well-balanced design that will appeal to a wide range of riders

At the heart of the Hero Karizma XMR is an all-new 210 cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, 4-valve DOHC engine, which produces 25.15 bhp at 9250 rpm and 20.4 Nm of torque at 7250 rpm. This engine is Hero’s first liquid-cooled unit, and it delivers impressive refinement and performance. The power delivery is smooth, and the engine feels free-revving, pulling comfortably up to 9500 rpm without losing breath.

Acceleration is brisk, and in city traffic, the Karizma XMR feels nimble and easy to handle. The engine’s wide torque spread allows for relaxed riding, even in higher gears. The bike can cruise in sixth gear at low speeds as low as 40 km/h, making it great for city commutes. While the engine is refined, riders will notice a bit of vibration at higher RPMs, which is typical for small single-cylinder engines.

The 6-speed gearbox comes equipped with a slip and assist clutch, making gear shifts light and easy, especially in traffic. However, the shifts could have been crisper, as the gear changes feel slightly soft. Overall, the performance is well-suited for both novice and experienced riders

The Karizma XMR impresses with its balanced ride quality. The suspension setup is tuned between soft and firm, ensuring that the bike glides over most road imperfections without feeling too stiff. This makes it comfortable for both city rides and longer highway trips. The monoshock rear suspension comes with 6-step pre-load adjustment, allowing riders to fine-tune the ride based on their preferences.

The bike’s handling is also commendable, thanks to its light kerb weight of 163.5 kg. The XMR feels agile and well-planted when taking turns or cornering, and its low center of gravity adds to its stability. Although our first ride was brief, the Karizma XMR proved to be a capable handler, both in traffic and on open roads

Despite its sporty looks, the Karizma XMR is designed with comfort in mind. The clip-on handlebars offer a slightly aggressive riding posture, but it’s not as committed as you’d find on track-focused bikes. The seat height of 810 mm makes it accessible for most riders, and the split-seat design provides adequate support for both the rider and pillion. The footpeg position is designed for a comfortable, semi-aggressive posture, suitable for both city and touring duties.

On longer rides, the windshield can be adjusted to reduce wind buffeting, though its effectiveness during high-speed rides remains to be seen. Overall, the ergonomics of the bike strike a good balance between comfort and sportiness
The Hero Karizma XMR comes with a range of modern features, including a fully digital LCD instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity. The console displays essential information such as speed, fuel level, trip meters, and turn-by-turn navigation. Additionally, the bike is equipped with a USB Type-A charging port, which is convenient for charging devices on the go.

The dual-channel ABS system ensures safe braking, and the bike is fitted with petal discs—a 300 mm front disc and a 230 mm rear disc—which offer good stopping power and heat dissipation. Although the XMR lacks some advanced tech seen in higher-end bikes, the features it does offer are practical and well-suited for everyday use
The Karizma XMR offers a reasonable mileage figure for its segment. While Hero has not released official fuel efficiency figures, we can expect the bike to return around 35-40 kmpl under normal riding conditions. With an 11-liter fuel tank, the bike offers a decent range, making it suitable for both city rides and longer touring adventure
Priced at ₹1.83 lakh (ex-showroom), the Hero Karizma XMR offers excellent value for money. Given its sporty design, modern features, and refined performance, it stands out as a competitive option in the 200 cc segment. While it faces stiff competition from models like the Bajaj Pulsar F250, Suzuki SF 250, and Bajaj Pulsar RS200, the Karizma XMR delivers a well-rounded package that should appeal to a wide range of riders

Hero MotoCorp’s extensive service network across India ensures that Karizma XMR owners will have easy access to maintenance and spare parts. Hero is known for its affordable service costs and reliable after-sales support, making the XMR an attractive option for buyers concerned about long-term ownership costs.

The Karizma XMR competes against the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar F250, Suzuki SF 250, and Bajaj Pulsar RS200, all of which offer similar performance and features. While the Pulsar F250 provides slightly better low-end torque, and the Suzuki SF 250 has a more refined engine, the Karizma XMR strikes a balance between performance, design, and practicality, making it a strong contender in its segment
The Hero Karizma XMR makes a strong case for itself in the highly competitive 200 cc segment. With its aggressive styling, refined engine, and practical features, it offers a well-rounded package for riders looking for a sporty yet comfortable motorcycle.

While it may not carry the same legendary status as the original Karizma just yet, it certainly has the potential to be a popular choice among both new and experienced riders. Overall, the Karizma XMR is a commendable return for a beloved brand
Pros
- Powerful 210 cc liquid-cooled engine with 25.15 bhp, offering smooth and refined performance
- Sporty design with full fairing, LED headlight, and adjustable windscreen
- Comfortable riding ergonomics, making it ideal for daily commutes and occasional touring
Cons
- Gear shifts could be more precise; feels spongy rather than a crisp “click”
- Some inconsistencies in frame welds and panel gaps, affecting overall build quality
- Strong competition from other bikes in the 200-250 cc segment offering similar performance
Verdict
The Hero Karizma XMR brings back a legendary name in Indian motorcycling with a modern twist, offering strong performance and a stylish design. Its refined engine, comfortable riding posture, and good handling make it an attractive option for both daily use and long rides. However, minor issues like gear shift precision and build quality keep it from being flawless. Priced competitively, the Karizma XMR is well-positioned in its segment, appealing to both new riders and those seeking a piece of nostalgia.

- Overall oky oky Bike4.0STD(Petrol)The Hero Karizma XMR is a good bike for those who love sporty rides. The engine performance is strong, and it offers good acceleration. However, the fuel efficiency isn’t great, especially in city traffic. The seating comfort is okay for short trips but can be a bit tiring for longer rides. The design is eye-catching, but I expected more modern tech features. Overall, it’s a fun bike, but with some trade-offs.By Nankau DesaiPosted on: Sep 27, 2024 11:28 AM00
