In this Bajaj Pulsar NS 400 Z expert review, the motorcycle is best suited to riders looking for strong performance, modern electronics and aggressive styling at an accessible price point. It is not ideal for those prioritising long-distance comfort or premium build quality, but its standout strength is how it delivers high performance and features at exceptional value.

As Janak Sorap puts it, The Pulsar NS 400 Z feels like the most serious performance Pulsar Bajaj has built so far.”

And that thought captures the essence of the bike perfectly. It’s a Pulsar that wants to go bigger, faster and more exciting than ever before.

Expert Context

To understand what the Pulsar NS 400 Z is really like beyond spec sheets and marketing claims, we spent time riding it across a proper mixed route. The evaluation was led by Janak Sorap, Assistant Editor at car&bike, who brings over ten years of riding experience and has tested more than 300,000 kilometers worth of motorcycles across segments. That experience helps us look beyond numbers and focus on how the motorcycle actually feels on the road.

For this review, we rode the bike through city traffic, open highways and mountain twisties. Our route began in Pune, climbed through the sweeping curves of Amboli Ghat, and continued onto the long highway stretches toward Goa. This combination of roads allowed us to evaluate acceleration, braking confidence, cornering stability and highway rideability in real-world conditions.

As Janak Sorap explains, “The NS 400 Z feels fast, engaging and surprisingly easy to ride for a motorcycle in this segment.

The Bajaj Pulsar NS 400 Z represents a major step forward for the Pulsar lineup. For years, the Pulsar brand has been associated with sporty yet accessible motorcycles, and this latest model takes that philosophy into the 400 cc space. At its core sits a 349 cc performance engine, giving the motorcycle the kind of power that many younger riders have been waiting for. What becomes clear early on is that Bajaj has built the motorcycle to feel exciting without becoming intimidating.

Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Design

What makes this motorcycle interesting is its positioning. Bajaj wanted to create a streetfighter that delivers big-bike performance without big-bike pricing. The result is a motorcycle that looks aggressive, feels quick in real-world riding, and still remains approachable for riders upgrading from smaller machines.

Key highlights include:

  • Largest Pulsar ever built
  • Ride-by-wire throttle
  • Traction control
  • Four ride modes
  • Aggressive streetfighter styling

Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z

Variants

Bajaj has kept things refreshingly simple with the Pulsar NS 400 Z lineup. Instead of splitting the motorcycle into multiple trims, the company offers one core mechanical configuration across all versions. That means whether you look at the Bajaj Pulsar NS 400 Z base model or what some riders might consider the Bajaj Pulsar NS 400 Z top model, the engine, chassis and electronics package remain exactly the same.

The only differences mainly come down to colour options and minor updates, allowing riders to choose a look they prefer without changing the riding experience.

Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Sideview

Standard Variant

The NS 400 Z is offered as a single, well-equipped variant that includes all key performance and technology features.

Important points:

  • Ride-by-wire
  • Traction Control
  • Four rider modes
  • Hardware that works at full speed

Every buyer gets the full set of features and performance without having to pay extra.

2025 Update (Improvements to the Facelift)

Bajaj has made small changes for better performance and to make it easier to ride.

  • Wider tyres for better grip
  • Improved braking hardware
  • Addition of a quickshifter
  • Refined throttle and traction control calibration

These updates make the motorcycle feel sharper and more refined without changing its core character.

What This Means for Buyers

Since there are no multiple trims, the decision is straightforward — you get the full feature set and performance package as standard.

This makes the NS 400 Z one of the most value-focused motorcycles in its segment.

Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Engine

The Pulsar NS 400 Z immediately tells you what it wants to be. This is a motorcycle designed with a clear streetfighter attitude. When we first walk up to it, the muscular fuel tank and sharp bodywork stand out. The tank extensions flow into the radiator shrouds and give the bike a broad, athletic stance. The LED headlamp looks modern and aggressive from the front, which adds to the overall sharp look

At the same time, Bajaj hasn’t forgotten the motorcycle’s roots. The design still carries the familiar NS DNA, but everything now feels larger and more purposeful. The exposed perimeter frame, the sculpted panels and the slightly forward-leaning stance all make the motorcycle look more muscular than earlier Pulsars.

Bajaj Pulsar NS400Z Front View

As Janak Sorap explains, The NS 400 Z still looks like a Pulsar, but it has a much stronger road presence.”

Design Highlights

  • LED projector headlamp
  • Muscular fuel tank
  • Split seat layout
  • Perimeter frame
  • Aggressive body panels

Put together, these elements give the motorcycle a bold presence on the road while still keeping the recognisable Pulsar identity intact.

At the heart of the Pulsar NS 400 Z is a familiar but proven performance platform. Bajaj uses the 373 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine that has already demonstrated strong real-world performance in the past. In this motorcycle, however, the engine is tuned to suit the street-fighter character of the bike. The result is a powertrain that feels quick, responsive and easy to use whether we’re navigating city traffic or stretching the bike out on an open highway.

The supporting hardware also reflects the motorcycle’s sporty intent. A perimeter frame provides rigidity for better cornering stability, while the USD front fork and rear monoshock suspension help maintain balance between ride comfort and sporty handling.

Pros

  • Excellent value pricing
  • Modern electronics package
  • Aggressive streetfighter styling

Cons

  • Basic display interface
  • Firm suspension setup
  • Limited touring comfort
  • Build quality could improve

Verdict

The Bajaj Pulsar NS 400 Z stands out because it has a lot of modern features and great performance for a very low price. This motorcycle isn’t trying to compete with premium European machines on brand appeal or luxury features. Instead, it focuses on something far more practical — delivering serious performance at a price many riders can actually afford. The engine feels lively, the electronics package adds real usability, and the aggressive design keeps the Pulsar DNA intact.

As Janak Sorap says, For the price, the NS 400 Z delivers performance that’s hard to ignore.

And that’s exactly where the bike shines. If you’re looking for a motorcycle that feels fast, modern and exciting without stretching your budget too far, this one makes a strong case.

The NS 400 Z may just be the most exciting value-performance motorcycle in India today.
