Range Rover is one of the early models from Land Rover in India to come across customers’ glare. Coming from the stables of British based car maker, Land Rover, Range Rover set high standards for rivals around. The Sport version which came into existence a couple of years ago fits the idea of a powerful premium SUV that scores high on the style quotient. Credited with style, poise and performance, Range Rover Sport is a worthy contender in the full-fledged premium SUV space.

There is a gradual growth in terms of stance as the SUV does not appear too lean or skinny. The body appears well balanced and perfectly massed with flesh around in the right areas. Looks apart, Land Rovers are well-kitted and Sport version follows the tradition. That said, the entire attention is not paid on making it look a handsome four-wheeled UV, as it gets a tough hardware under the skin dragging the SUV quite effortlessly. Power on offer is massive in both petrol and diesel versions which reflects in the performance. The ZF sourced auto box contributes well, proving its efficiency, overall a good package with the right blend of all the components used in right proportion.

Range Rover Sport Exterior

On the outside it may look inspired from the Evoque, but there are various elements that differentiate it from former. Unlike Evoque which is contoured curvaceously, Range Rover Sport has a bit boxy silhouette. The front windscreen is wide, slanting upwards. Nose gets a small black finished dual slat grille and lean pulled back projector head lamps. The large dual tone bumper gets notably big black finished fog lamp housings with lanky rectangular shaped fog lamps fitted neatly.Air-intakes are small and get overshadowed by the black cladding. Side profile is impressive too featuring flared wheel arches complimenting well the massive tyres with five-spoke alloy wheels. The sharp belt line runs across the length of the SUV and is supported by notably carved creases on flanks. Moreover, the sloping roof line ending in a pointed rear spoiler looks imposing. Window frame featuring black finish all around and an all black C-pillar accentuates the side profile well. Rear is crafted tastefully as well as it gets a set of swooping wrap around tail lamps, a pair of chrome tailpipes and chrome garnish running between the tail lamps.

Range Rover Sport Interior

Dual tone interiors are modishly styled, the quality of material used inside is very premium and up-market. The large dashboard gets a large screen that catches your attention as soon as you step inside. Horizontal air vents are placed on the top of the centre console that flows seamlessly onto the floor. What does not really go well is the wood finish on the console which could have been better. Moreover the console gets temperature dials and buttons along with various other buttons behind the gear knob. The four spoke steering wheel gets mounted buttons and a hint of chrome. Door pads have ample space for storage and driver side window gets various mounted buttons. There is an arm rest placed in the centre of the front seat. The premium beige leather upholstered seat covers are very superior in quality. A lot of chrome work is used on the console and wood trims are also visible on the door pads. Rear seat has generous room and it gets a large arm rest with integrated twin cup holders and storage box. Here the space on offer needs a mention as it is lavish both in front and rear.

Range Rover Sport Engine Specifications & Transmission

Engine line-up includes a 3.0 litre SDV6 diesel and a 5.0 litre, V8 petrol engine available exclusively on the Autobiography variant. Power developed by the diesel motor is around 215kW at 4000 RPM along with 600Nm torque at 2000rpm. The high displacing petrol engine produces 375kW between 6000 to 6500rpm and 625Nm between 2500 to 5500rpm. An eight-speed automatic ZF sourced transmission is paired to both the engines, moreover gear shifting is smooth and effortless.

Range Rover Sport Features

Fixed panaromic roof is available across range save for the base trim. Sliding panoramic sunroof, on the other hand is options on the entire range. Similarly, there is also an option for a contrast roof. Power adjustable ORVMs can be folded electrically and get heated function along with approach lamps. Adaptive xenon head lamps with LED signature and front fog lamps are fitted in front. Auto dimming interior mirror, 4 zone climate control, 18 way powered front seats with memory, power adjustable leather steering, 60:40 folding rear seats with load through etc are some of the other primary comfort features packed inside.

Range Rover Sport Performance & Mileage

Fuel economy is improved from the previous version but still nothing concrete on that front. With features like terrain response, adaptive dynamics, four corner air suspension and dynamic response dynamic program with torque vector braking aboard, the SUV yields a great performance. An all aluminium chassis means considerable weight thrown out of the body which ensures magnificent power to weight ratio. The engine is quiet and gear shifting is effortlessly smooth.

Range Rover Sport Accessories & Infotainment

A 380W audio system with 8 speakers is armed in the lower variants, whereas the higher trims feature an integrated 825W merdian surround sound audio system with 19 speakers. Besides, there is also an option for a 1700W meridian signature reference audio system with 23 speakers. For rear passengers, Land Rover has equipped a segregate entertainment system. Bluetooth phone connection, television tuner, touch screen with dual view technology, navigation system and TFT virtual instrument panel wrap up the infotainment features aboard.

Braking is adept with so many braking features on board., handling at the same is responsive and razor sharp. Suspension is absorbent.

Safety brigade includes a volumetric alarm, multiple airbags employed in front/side/ along with Thorax and pelvis bags. Other eminent safety features on board are dynamic stability control, roll stability control, hill descent control, cornering brake control and electronic traction control.

Sport may not be armed to teeth, but it features state-of-the-art fitments such as rear park distance sensors with visual display, front parking aid with front visual display, rear view camera, surround sound system, keyless entry, soft door close which is available only with keyless entry and power single piece tailgate.

Range Rover Sport Wheels and Tyres

20 inch five-split spoke alloy wheels are entwined on all four tyres. A full size spare wheel is also available on the SUV.

In the high priced luxury SUV segment, Land Rover Sport comes face to face with Porsche Cayenne, BMW X5 and Mercedes Benz GLE Class.
