Land Rover Range Rover Velar Preview

The much-awaited Range Rover Velar has been launched in India with prices starting at Rs 78.83 lakh. The SUV sports a coupe like roofline with a sporty stance while still maintaining the Range Rover design theme. The new Land Rover Velar is possibly one of the most stunning SUVs in the world today and is filled to the brim with all sorts of tech and comfort features. It comes with an all virtual dashboard with two different touch-screens - one meant for infotainment and the other for controlling features like climate control etc.

Range Rover Velar’s Appearance

Apart from being sporty and discreetly muscular, the Velar is also very efficient with its design with a drag co-efficient of only 0.32 which makes it the most aerodynamic Land Rover ever produced. The floating roof design that Land Rover has pioneered and the clamshell bonnet, both make an obvious appearance on the Velar. The Velar gets a set of 22-inch wheels on the top-end version, which perfectly fills up the large wheel arches.

The Range Rover Velar is offered with three powertrains options - two diesel and one petrol. The 2.0-litre 4-cylinder diesel engine churns out 177 bhp and 430 Nm of peak power while the more powerful 3.0-litre V6 puts out 296 bhp and impressive 700Nm of peak torque. Both the diesel engines are paired to an eight-speed gearbox and all-wheel-drive.

The petrol engine is a 2.0-litre motor from the same Ingenium family as the diesel. The engine, badged P250 makes 246 bhp and 265 Nm of torque. Just like the diesel, the petrol too will get an 8-speed gearbox and all-wheel-drive as standard kit.

Range Rover Velar's Rivals

The Range Rover Velar will rival the likes of Audi Q7, BMW X5, Mercedes-Benz GLE and the Volvo XC90. It will also take on the likes of the Land Rover Discovery and the Jaguar F-Pace from its own JLR family.
