Expert Review on Nissan Tekton
car&bike Expert Take
“By removing the underpowered naturally aspirated engines standard in this class, Nissan has now made only two potent turbo-petrol powertrains available in the Tekton. It comes with class-leading torque and a five-star Bharat NCAP safety rating.”

Launched recently, the new Nissan Tekton looks a lot like the brand’s legendary global Nissan Patrol. It has landed in the Indian market mainly to challenge other established segment cars like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
For this edition, Nissan has equipped the Tekton with turbocharged engines right from the base variant. It looks quite muscular as well, while the cabin inside has a highly connected, luxury-focused experience.
Seshan Vijayraghvan took a trip from Chandigarh to Leh with Nissan’s latest offering. He remarks,
"I spent most of the journey in the 1.3-litre version and also experienced the 1.0-litre manual. Both had their strengths, and both had to work hard on these roads."
Nissan Tekton Engine & Performance
Both powertrains of the new Tekton are exclusively turbocharged.

Engine Specifications
| Engine | 1.0-Litre Turbo Petrol T160 | 1.3-Litre Turbo Petrol T280 |
| Power | 98 bhp @ 5,000 rpm | 160 bhp @ 5,250 rpm |
| Torque | 166 Nm @ 2,000-3,750 rpm | 280 Nm @ 2,000-3,500 rpm |
| Transmission | Six-speed Manual | Six-speed Manual / Six-speed Wet Clutch DCT |
| Drivetrain | Front-Wheel Drive | Front-Wheel Drive |
Seshan says,
"If you're buying a Tekton primarily for the city, either engine will get the job done."
City Driving Experience
- Both engines can handle city traffic well, without any inconvenience.
- The engines provide peppy low-end throttle response for quick traffic overtakes.
- The electric power steering features tilt and telescopic adjustments for urban manoeuvres.
Highway Driving Experience
- The 1.3-litre's massive 280 Nm torque reserve is more ideal for highway overtaking.
- There’s standard cruise control on the higher trims, keeping the engine performing well.
- The T160 engine needs careful gear management here, more than the T280 alternative.
The exterior uses an aero-optimised, commanding silhouette.
Seshan recalls,
"Even a quick tea break by the roadside had people walking up to ask about the car."

Best Value Overall: N-Connecta T280 Manual

Best Fully Loaded Package: Tekna+ T280 DCT
The flagship Tekna+ T280 DCT gets the 17-feature Level 2 ADAS suite, Google built-in integration, ventilated power seats, 360-degree camera, and the smart electric tailgate.
Some of the Nissan Tekton’s rivals are the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

Which Midsize SUV Should You Choose?
- Choose the Nissan Tekton if you want the high 280 Nm torque, the Google built-in infotainment, a five-star Bharat NCAP rating, and a 518-litre boot.
- Choose the Hyundai Creta if you prefer a refined diesel engine option more, along with widespread service accessibility.
- Choose the Kia Seltos if aggressive sports-car styling and stiff, sharp handling dynamics are your topmost requirement.
- Choose the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara if maximum fuel efficiency via a strong hybrid setup or all-wheel-drive capability is what you want to take home.

Pros
- The 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine has plenty of mid-range grunt that’s ideal for steep mountain climbs and brisk highway overtakes.
- Its chassis and suspension tuning together, keep it stable even over broken roads.
- Steering is well weighted and returns ample feedback on what the front wheels are doing on corners.
- Cabin comfort is well sorted with supportive, ventilated seats, and a commanding driving position.
- It’s 6-speed automatic has paddle shifters, which give you better control in tricky inclined situations.
Cons
- The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol motor runs slightly out of breadth on steep climbs.
- A tall, heavy clutch pedal (manual gearbox) can tire your left leg when shifting gears constantly.
- Its 1.0-litre engine lacks an automatic gearbox option.
- Turbo lag on both engines is quite prominent in some driving conditions.
Verdict
The Nissan Tekton is a capable and reasonably dynamic midsize SUV. It can easily handle long distances and challenging terrain. Also, the tough exterior styling, comfortable cabin, and extra punch from its 1.3-litre turbo-petrol engine make it a strong alternative in the segment.
Seshan Vijayraghvan said, “The Tekton has certainly left me impressed. I spent most of the journey to the Himalayas in the 1.3-litre version and also experienced the 1.0-litre manual. Both had their strengths, and both had to work hard on these roads.”
Yes, the 1.0-litre manual demands hard work behind the wheel and lacks an automatic option. But the top-spec 1.3-litre turbo DCT handles cross-country touring without breaking a sweat. We can easily say that this Nissan offers competitive real-world substance.
Nissan Tekton Mileage
Nissan Tekton mileage is 17 to 19 KM/L as per ARAI The Manual Petrol engine has a mileage of 19.4 KM/L. The DCT Petrol engine has a mileage of 18.5 KM/L.
| Fuel Type | Transmission | Mileage |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Manual | 19.4 KM/L |
