Lighting & Front Identity

• The front apron features a highly distinctive, square-shaped twin LED headlamp cluster.
• It has a small flyscreen mounted above the headlights, adding a nice adventure-touring touch.
• The LED indicators sit securely inside the thick front panels, keeping them safe from minor scrapes in tight traffic.

Side Profile & Rear Section

• The side profile shows off the 14-inch alloy wheels, which are much larger than the standard 12-inch wheels seen on other scooters.
• You get thick tubular saddle stays bolted on at the front and rear.
• The taillight uses a simple rectangular LED layout that matches the boxy front end.

Practical Integration

The storage options on this vehicle clearly beat everything else in the current market.

• The scooter features a lockable 12-litre front glovebox for stashing your phone, wallet, or small water bottles.
• River also included a unique set of front-mounted footpegs. If you load up the floorboard with bags or boxes, you can comfortably rest your feet on these forward pegs, maintaining a relaxed riding posture.

Jafar was very clear about its size,

“The 43-litre underseat storage is among the largest you'll find on any scooter, ICE or EV. It can easily accommodate a full-size helmet, some knick-knacks, and still leave room for groceries.”

Instead of offering multiple battery packs or confusing trim levels, the Indie Gen 3 comes in a single variant.

• The scooter is priced at Rs. 1.52 lakh (ex-showroom price in Delhi).
• The price bracket places it on the higher side of the electric scooter market.
• However, the storage capacity and heavy-duty build quality speak for this current price.

When you buy an electric scooter for heavy daily use, charging speeds and real-world range are the most important factors. River Mobility claims the Indie can cover 110 km on a single charge when ridden in Eco mode.

Real-World Range

During our month-long test, we mostly kept the scooter in Ride mode to match the flow of city traffic. Jafar tracked the battery drop during his daily commute. Based on the tests, you can realistically expect around 75 to 80 kilometres of range on a full charge if you use Ride mode in heavy traffic. Also, topping up from 30 per cent to 100 per cent takes roughly four to five hours using a 750W charger.

The Gen 3 introduced several tech upgrades, most notably Bluetooth connectivity and hill-hold control.

Instrumentation & Connectivity

The rider's dashboard features a bright six-inch colour display.

• The display is simple and bright enough to remain readable under direct sunlight and presents all the necessary information clearly.
• The scooter features full LED lighting all around, which provides a strong, wide beam for safe riding at night.

Practical Technology & Safety Integration

Pushing a 135 kg scooter out of a tight parking spot can be hard work. To fix this, River included electronic parking assists.

• You get both forward and reverse assist modes.
• These modes cap the speed at 3 kmph, letting you quietly reverse out of sloping parking areas without straining your legs.
• River also offers official accessories that fit perfectly.

Even though the River Indie Gen 3 has a bulky design, it does not give up its high-quality ride and handling characteristics.

City Handling

Despite weighing 135 kg, the scooter hides its mass perfectly once you start moving.

• Slicing through traffic is easy, and the Indie doesn't feel like it will get stuck in tight spaces at all.
• The steering feels light, and the mid-mounted motor keeps the weight balanced in the centre.

Highway Stability

The scooter runs on large 14-inch alloy wheels at both the front and rear. Most scooters use 12-inch wheels, so this larger size gives the Indie a massive advantage in straight-line stability.

• The 14-inch wheels keep the overall balance of the scooter high, while letting it run more agile than its dimensions would suggest.
• Whether you are crossing a windy bridge or holding a steady 80 kmph on a ring road, the Indie feels planted and secure.

Suspension Behaviour

The Indie Gen 3 also uses telescopic front forks and twin rear shock absorbers with preload adjustment. The tuning here is a bit of a mixed bag.

• The front end feels slightly stiff, especially over sharper bumps and broken patches.
• The rear suspension feels more compliant by contrast and absorbs undulations better.
• At 160 mm, it clears most bumps when you ride alone.

But Jafar noticed a clear issue when carrying a passenger,

"With a pillion, things change. On multiple occasions, the centre stand scraped over larger speed breakers and deeper undulations."

Braking and Comfort

The scooter uses disc brakes at both the front and the rear.

• These brakes are linked via a Combined Braking System (CBS).
• There is no ABS available, which is a miss at this price point.
• The 787 mm seat height allows most riders to put their feet flat on the ground.

Since the River Indie Gen 3 comes in a single variant, you do not have to worry about picking the right battery pack or software unlock. Your Rs. 1.52 lakh buys you the complete package. Your only choice is the paint scheme.

• If you use the scooter for commercial deliveries, the Storm Grey or Winter White options look professional and hide dust well.
• If you want to stand out in traffic, the Summer Red or Spring Yellow colours highlight the boxy, retro design beautifully.
