Expert Review on Tata Sierra
Tata Sierra Review And Opinion - Top Things to Know
Tata Motors introduced the Sierra SUV and even before the customer deliveries could start, we got a chance to drive the SUV. And not just one, but two models - both the petrol and diesel. Bilal Firfiray in his first drive review of the new Tata Sierra highlights many things, and here are five takeaways from the detailed report.
- Buyers can expect the reliable 1.5L diesel to have good low-end grunt.
- On the other hand, the new 1.5L turbo-petrol (Hyperion engine) offers strong torque and good drivability for city/highway use.
- The steering on both models isn't quick but still light to use.

Bilal Firfiray mentions, "When we started the engine in the morning, going through the cabin and the presentation inside, we had to double-check whether the engine was idling. And that's a huge compliment. There are no vibrations whatsoever that filter inside the cabin, and it's silent, which is a characteristic we usually associate with Japanese engines."
- The top-spec variants get Level 2 ADAS as standard, but one cannot have this feature in the entry-level variants.
- What further ensures high utility and safety are ventilated seats, 360-degree camera, powered tailgate, and connected car tech.
- The Sierra is also tech-loaded with a unique triple-screen setup (instrument cluster, central touchscreen, co-driver display on top trims).
- Then there's advanced tech like a Head-Up Display (HUD) and a JBL sound system.

- It manages to absorb jolts and take the usual bumps and potholes like a pro.
- They faced a lot of bad roads during their shoot yet there wasn't any issue at all.

Bilal mentions, "Summing up the ride and handling in one single sentence is that it is a typical Tata product. If you have driven the Harrier, Curvv or even the Nexon, this one doesn't feel out of place. And this I mean as a compliment because Tata's are made for India."
- The Sierra aims for a balance of luxury and utility, with good cabin quietness, precise steering, and a solid feel.
- As a result, it bridges the gap between existing Tata models offering a more premium experience.

Bilal says, "The panoramic sunroof makes the cabin feel more airy. Even the quality of the material used over here. You have soft-touch plastics. Even the height for a tall rear passenger shouldn't be an issue."
- It revives the classic Sierra's boxy silhouette.
- However, it also modernizes it with full-width LED lights and flush door handles.
- Then, it has a confident stance, maintaining that strong visual appeal.

Concluding, let's quote what Bilal had started off by saying, "Every now and then, there comes along a car that makes everyone simply gawk at its arrival. The reborn Tata Sierra is one such car that has taken the internet by storm. People have been waiting for the revival of this iconic nameplate, and now that the cat is out of the bag, it is garnering unwavering attention not just on social media but also on the roads."
