The Aprilia SXR 160 was launched in India in December 2020. The 160cc maxi scooter looks sporty and imposing. It packs in features like LED lighting, an LCD instrument cluster and smartphone connectivity. It also gets a multifunctional LCD display that shows a wide array of information ranging from speed, rev count, fuel efficiency, average speed as well as the tell tale signs. Additionally, you also get as standard a USB charging port.
Powering the Aprilia SXR 160 is a fuel-injected 160cc, single-cylinder engine that develops 10.5 bhp and 11.6 Nm of peak torque. This engine is paired to a CVT gearbox. The SXR 160 packs telescopic forks up front and a monoshock at the rear. Braking duties are taken care of by disc brakes at both ends coupled with a single-channel ABS. The SXR 160 gets 12-inch alloy wheels that are shod with 120-section tyres.
The Aprilia SXR 160’s main rival is the Yamaha Aerox 155 but there can be alternatives like the Vespa SXL 150 as well. The Aprilia SXR 160 is priced at Rs 1.45 lakh (ex-showroom India).

Designed in Italy but made for India, the Aprilia SXR 160 boasts a Crossmax design, blending the sportiness of a maxi-scooter with the practicality of a typical Indian scooter. This fusion results in a striking and functional scooter that turns heads effortlessly. The front end features RS660-inspired twin LED headlamps with LED daytime running lights, complemented by a tall windscreen that enhances aerodynamics. The sharp and angular design continues along the side panels, culminating in a distinctive LED taillight. The step-up seat adds to the scooter's imposing presence, while the chunky exhaust muffler and sleek 12-inch alloy wheels in brushed grey complete the look. Available in vibrant colours like Glossy Red, Matt Blue, Glossy White, and Matt Black, the SXR 160 is a visually appealing scooter.

Verdict
The Aprilia SXR 160 brings the aspirational maxi-styling in a relatively achievable package to the masses. It offers a European style to the buyers which is paired to a punchy engine with enough performance to keep you content. It has good road presence and loads of pracality owing to a lot of storage spaces. But the pinch point is that Aprilia doesn’t have a wide dealership and after sales support network in India which might prove to be an issue for a lot of customers, especially those that don’t reside in urban areas.
